I would be willing to bet you guys that have "safety" issues with Mexican Carry haven't done it much. I carried that way for several years with a 1911 without incident. I have carried several different kinds of guns this way and as long as the piece is in proper working order, its fine.

The big reason I (mostly) quit carrying this way is retention. The gun stays in place pretty well when you're standing or walking, but not so well when you're rolling around on the ground in a hand-to-hand situation.

it depends on your body type. the best concealment position on my body is appendix carry (or mexican carry as some people call it), and i just got a new holster to wear it that way.

there is nothing wrong with carrying "mexican" carry.

I'm pretty sure that when people say "Mexican carry", it is not the location where you are carrying it (near your appendix in your case) but rather the fact that you are carrying it without any holster at all. For example, Magnum p.i. carried his 1911 in small of back, yet Mexican carry.

Right, I was referring to carrying without a holster. It just seems like carrying without a holster the gun tends to poke out away from my body because of my body shape. I would hope that a good holster and belt would help hold it in closer to my body. Also, it seems like carrying it with cant would make it better, too. I was hoping to verify that before spending the money on something that wouldn't work for me. Unfortunately, when it is 90+ degrees and 100% humidity for most of the year, heavier clothing is not much of an option. I also can't see myself wearing that pack with the water bottles into the office everyday

Well a holster will most defiantly help keep it closer to your body, and keep it at the cant you want, which will help a lot. If you’re still having issues printing you may want to look into something with a shorter handle like a sub compact.

And as for the clothing it just needs to be long and loose enough to cover the weapon during the normal course of movement, it does not need to be heavy by any means IMO. And I only recommend dark colors and patterns because when you do print (I will happen at some point no matter what) it is much harder to spot. But I can really see you wanting to stay away from the dark colors. But even patterns in light colors will work. They do for me but YMMV.

Best of luck finding what works for you, it took time for me to find the best way to carry and I am still learning, it varies a lot from person to person as you can see by these posts

yeah massad ayoob actually carried mexican with a XD while testing it. Something he'd dare not try with a glock.

Yes, Mexican carry has nothing to do with location. It's carrying in the waistband in any location without a holster.

The IWB carry with my clip draw AKA " Mexican carry " is the best way to go for myself. I used to carry my XD45 this way but I had to remove it and put it on my Sig 40. The clip wouldn't fit in my Kydex belt holster I use for IDPA . I can draw my sig just as fast as holster carry...... I can wear cargo shorts and a polo shirt or t-shirt without it having to be oversized. This type of carry gives you the advantage of concealing the weapon better than holster carry. When I carry my XD now- I carry it in my bare asset IWB holster. This holster is a great concealment holster but nowhere as good as my clipdraw.

Us "larger" people have it easy carrying Mexican, Our love handles blend in with the gun and the already too tight belt just pulls the gun in closer to your body.
