Gun safe question/opinion

Hey everybody... another safe question. i've got it pinned down to 2 options and wanted some input. it's going on a shelf right next to my bed, either safe will fit there:

Wally world website has this one:
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=4104262

pros: it's a brinks, internal light (or is this a con in the wrong situation?), larger than the other safe (~12x14x5)
cons: not sure if keys beep or not, not sure if keys light up (not sure if i want them to or not, probably not

or this ebay one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MakeTrack=true

pros: silencable keys, stack-on
cons: smaller (~4x11.75x8.25)

with the shipping, price is basically a wash...
I'm hung up b/w the stack-on's silent buttons and the larger size of the brinks. the internal light on the brinks could be good or bad... i'll disable if necessary. not sure if i'd be able to disable the beeping if it had it.

anybody have that brinks safe and know if it beeps when you press the buttons?

any other opinions/thoughts would be appreciated.

If I had to have it locked up while I was sleeping I personally would NEVER go with that type of safe. I would go with a one hand quick access safe where your fingers pretty much fall on the buttons and that you could unlock with one hand in the dark, then the door pops open automatically so it's ready to grab as your hand gets to the door. I would not want to be screwing around trying to see the buttons on one of those safes to enter the code, then having to turn the handle and open the door before getting the pistol. You may have to ask the burglar for more time to get to it. Really the only one I would personally consider, if I had to have one, is the Gunvault. This one at wally world is similar though.

If you are just looking for gun storage while you have your "protection" on the nightstand than it doesn't matter.

The gunvault is really nice, but more expensive.

problem with my setup is that i've got a low shelf next to my mattress where a top hinging safe is most desirable. i don't want anything that opens to the side... i hope that makes sense.....

It does, but I would try to change that (by moving the shelf up or something) where I could use a front quick entry. The extra time it takes to open it could be VERY important.

yeah... i can't really change that give my setup. and not sure i want to... that shelf is on the farside of bed between bed and wall and VERY discrete. i'm debating getting it and just keeping the safe open at night when i'm there and then closing it when i leave. that would also alleviate the "beeping" sound.... although the internal light would have to go or i'd lose the batteries once a week

I have one of the DAC sportsafes and it works just fine for my purposes. It has my 1911 and my mkII in it. The only thing I don't like is the beeps on the buttons. For quick access purposes it's very loud and could attract a lot of unneccessary attention. But you can turn it off.

i too have a gun vault. it is so fast to open. a few months back the alarm in the house went off and I sware I had the safe open and the gun out way faster than i ever thought possible. My wife even mentioned later on how fast i was from alarm, to wake up, to open, to armed and how proud she was. I wouldn't worry too much abou the beeping thing. my hand glided over those keys so fast it was one sound almost. personally for a bedside safe, i wouldn't get something that takes more than 1-2 seconds to get open. in the store time yourself and make sure the spring loaded door is repeatedly opening fast, the same each time.

btw, the alarm ended up being the damn cat playing with a door sensor, but I was ready if it was needed.

That's probably the best way to do it with one of those.
