I don't really know much about Bar-Sto barrels, but upgrading any gun costs money, and to really get the best performance, you need to upgrade. No stock pistol (or rifle) can compete with one that's had money pumped into upgrades.
If you just want your gun for defense, you can keep it stock (though I kind of like at least a trigger job on nearly any gun). It should suit that purpose just fine without a new barrel, recoil compensation, or any of that.

Because if they see what they will have to come through to pry them from my cold dead hands - they might rethink the attempt. Besides they aren't looking on any internet fourms when the state will give a full list to anyone who merely asks. Mostly its just to "who's is bigger kinda thing" - don't ya think?

I actually get the concept. I'm still a fan of just telling the grabbers molon labe, and letting them guess what I've got. Oh, and will the state give a full list? When transferring firearms from one individual to another, rather than buying from a gun shop or anything, it is perfectly legal in many states to avoid all the paperwork. Also, many states also destroy the records of actual gun sales, so they only have lists of potential owners (they keep names, though not records of which guns or whether the sale was ever completed).
But mostly I have fewer guns than I'd like, as well as a little bit of paranoia.

As they come out of the box, the barrel of the XD is more accurate than most of us are capable of. If you put a Bar-Sto barrel in your gun, you probably won't be able to tell any difference in accuracy unless you shoot it from a bench rest. I'ts a good option to have if your barrel somehow becomes damaged, or needs to be replaced for some other reason.
Remember that the XD is considered a service weapon, designed for defensive use at closer distances and not intended for bulls eye shooting accuracy. It is plenty accurate for its intended purpose.
If you are looking to improve your target shooting accuracy, you will see a lot more improvement from a good trigger job and new sights.

Happy Independence Day!

Evidently he has done so.

I cannot complain though. Bar-Sto builds a fine barrel.

I had to wait for almost six months to get a 9mm bull
barrell drop-in for my Sig P229/40/357.

Does this mean that a 9mm conversion barrel probably isn't too far off?!?

Rather contact EFK for a semi-drop in threading barrel

I have a XD40SC too, wait too long for a conversion 9mm.

Saw EFK they're making semi-drop in threading barrel for service and tactical
http://www.efkfiredragon.com/products.php?cat=37
If they can make subcompact and threading, I can add a compensator
http://www.pistolgear.com/proddetail.php?prod=26NVB

not only the barrel length increased to 3.5" and improve accuracy but also can reduce recoil. Overall the pistol will look much unique and cool.

From technical standpoint, they can copy the existing .40SW and 9mm 3" barrel specification easily and make the barrel 1/2" longer for threading.
Is that a good idea?
