Looking for shooter's belt
...for competition.
Is that the right term? Usually velcro closure. Goes over regular belt (or companion belt with velcro). Best kind and price. While I'm at it: recommendations for mag pouches for competition to go with above-mentioned belt? More than you wanted to know: Recently made the mental switch to IPSC from IDPA. That is: it's a game, not practice for real life scenarios. Still like IDPA. IPSC is easier to get to. So I'm looking for the toys that go with it. Just ordered XD 9mm Tactical. Plan on tarting it up with trigger job and sights. Any comments on Big Dot sights? Thanks, mcgraw |

If you are looking to game it, Big Dot sights are not the way to go. I would get a set of sights that give YOU the best sight pictures. I run Dawson Adjustables, others run Heine Target sights and even the stock rear with a Dawson front. It is very subjective, however the Big Dot sight will not be your friend at 20-25 yards.
As for the belt you mentioned, you have two options; Safariland or CR Speed. For IDPA, I now use Wilderness belt and for USPSA I use the CR Speed belt. You have many options for holsters and mag pouches. I prefer Blade-Tech and Safariland. C-Tac rigs are also very nice. OS

I have Heinie Slant pros(no Tritium) on my gun, I use sight paint on the front sight. I use the Wilderness Instructor belt, Blade Tech single pouches, and a Blade Tech belt holster. One of the guys I shoot with uses a thin sliver of flourescent tape in the center of the front sight for precise aiming on long targets. I have a CR speed belt as well for when I get ready to shoot Limited. If you are just starting out start with basic gear so your gear is not faster than you. CR Speed is fast fast fast gear!

Definitely look at the CR Speed belt for around $55. The inner belt has the soft surface so you can wear it while driving to the range without hooking yourself to the upholstery. The Safariland is the reverse and is much less popular. I use the CR Speed Versa Pouches to hold my XD mags. I have an identical rig that is configuired for my L-10 single stack mags.
I have a Dawson adjustable rear sight and their FO front sight on my Tactical that I use for USPSA Production Division competition. I have a similar system on my Springer Black Stainless that I use for the L-10 Division. This is a great approach IMHO.
