I have a Serpa for my XD45 service and my wife has a Serpa for her XD40 SC.
I like them for the retention and also has the belt & paddle attachment. Also adjust the cant to where you like it.

Now I dont know about the 45 but I have a serpa holster that I bought for the xd 40 service and I love it. I picked up a Tactical to use for USPSA and was using the serpa holster for that. I didnt realize it but I was dragging the front sight on the way out and it was actually catching a little bit because the serpa did not extend far enough to cover the 5 inch barrel. I ended up breaking the FO rod in my front site. I just ordered a different holster from PG that should cover the 5 inch barrel so I wont have the problem I had with the serpa. I have not seen a Serpa that is made specifically for the 5in but it is possible that they do. If you have high sights or FO front sights I would be cautious of using the serpa at least I had problems with it. May just be me.

Service and Tactical

I have used the Blackhawk holster with my XD-40 Service for some time now and have been very pleased with it. I used the same holster for carrying my XD-45 Tactical (with Dawson FO sights) for the past few weeks and haven't noticed a problem (yet anyway).

I can understand the front sight problem, but I also think the way you draw your gun may be part of that problem.

Your 100% correct that it very well could be the way I draw the gun. I just wanted to post that I had issues and that it may be a flaw in the serpa for a 5in barrel. I love the Serpa and if it was in inch longer I would continue to use it for my XD Tac.
