Another stock guide rod assembly goes to crap...
At our Group Shoot last week, Tango Sierra's guide rod assembly for his XD357 Service model blew apart. It took Rich a few minute to get the gun apart. Rich did have another assembly on him, so Tom was able to finish the match.
If this happened on the street or at a major match, Tom would've be finished. If Rich was not there to help, I am not sure if Tom would have been able to get the gun apart. Just another reason why a solid guide assembly is the way to go. OS Note: This is not a common occurrence but common enough to where I personally will only run my guns with Don's Guide Rods.

At this point I don't know what they are for. Less spring weight means what? Heavier spring means less felt recoil? But does that make it harder to rack? I also saw something about replacing the spring every 3000 rounds. I've gone over 3000 on the stock spring, so why would I replace it? I know, newbie questions. I haven't read up on the DGR.

Your questions have been address 1001 times on this forum. Plenty of reading if that is what you are looking to do.
Reliability is one reason, so is the means of picking a spring weight that is best for your loads. In the end, the weight of the spring is subjective and there is no spring that is best for everyone. The most popular weight is 22 pounds, yet I run 16 in my Tacticals and 18 in my Service models.

Like I said, I need to read up on these. They seem to be the hottest thing around. Your second post threw me off though. I guess I wasn't around when the initial DGR briefing went on.

What rod?
Just for the record was it a stock OEM XD-45 service recoil spring rod that failed?
