Don Hume holster questions, and a Kydex vs. leather Q

I was wondering if anyone has a Don Hume Double Nine Belt holster or the Hume Semi-Open Front Pancake Holster for their XD, and if so, how do you like it? I'm looking for a belt holster to use at the range, and for some open carry (woods, range, car). I also like the retention strap as it will help secure the gun during physical activity. Both holsters are available from gunners alley...and I'm a lefty as well.

Also as to kydex vs. Leather. I have two G-code holsters (right handed) and I find that they scratch the finish on my XD quite a bit (I just got it refinished to armory coat) I was wondering if leather was any better as to finish wear like I'm getting from Kydex. I'm noticing my wear near the muzzle of my pistol and on the left (non ejection side) edge of the slide.

Thanks for your help,
Cooper

I cant answer about the Hume....give them a call and the should be able to help you out.

As far as leather Vs kydex.....kydex isnt near as flexible as leather is so the retention of the holster has to be focused on a couple of key points of the gun to keep it in place. This causes very substantial wear on these specific points. Leather is far more forgiving and spreads the the retention out over a much broader area and thus spreads the holster wear out also. They both wear guns over time....just in different ways.

Shoot well and god bless

Safariland

I have several different types of Kydex holsters from all the major manufacturers. My favorite is the Safariland brand. Their "Kydex" type holster is lined with a suede leather type material. I personally feel like I get the best of both worlds with that design.

The paddle holster version is more comfortable for me than other paddles I have tried (XD Gear, Fobus, etc.) If I remember correctly, the model number is 5182, and I got it for $42 at www.brianenos.com. There is also a belt version available for the same price, but I don't remember the model number.

I use the paddle for both concealed carry and IDPA and am very pleased with it.

Don Hume Holster Question

I have two Don Hume holsters for my XDs. Both are open top model 720 and 721. Paddle and belt pancake. They are both good holsters and I know they will cause less wear on your pistol. I still like my Kydex C-Tac IWB holster the best and my other holsters sit growing mold. I keep them because I might use them someday. I plan to buy a Comp-Tac paddle slide holster and when I do I guess I will sell the other holsters.
