Tac light options and help choosing
I am somewhat in the market for a tac light,
I have been mostly reading about the TLR-1 but there seems to be minor "defects" . Is there another tac light that is all around great for a decent price? The tac light I want would be used for in and around my home. Is this an easy desicion or are there a bunch of options here? What would you reccomend me to look into considering what ill be using it for? Also this will be used on my 45 tactical so I would like it to some what fit nicely and look nice as well, I dont want it to look "dinky"

The Best
IMHO the best handgun light is the Surefire X200B

I think for the money, the Glock Tactical light is an excellent price.

I own 2 glock tactical lights. One with and one without the laser. I love them and I do a lot of night shooting as my primary reason for owning my XD is predator extermination in my extremely dense woods. At $75 for the one and $225 for the other (which is what I paid), they seemed a good deal. The batteries last a long time and are easily available from the local pharmacy.

what defects are you talking about with the TLR-1? Are you referring to the finish? From what I've read, it's just powder burn and will come off with a little elbow grease. If you are putting it on a tactical, I doubt you will even notice that anyways as it shouldn't stick past the end of the gun. And if you're concerned with the screw possibly loosening, put some locktight on it and your problem is solved. I don't notice any problems at all with my TLR-1. In fact, I like the light output of it much better than I do any of my surefire flashlights. The center beam is blindingly bright, and the side spill light illuminates quite a bit. I wouldn't trade my light for another at all. I had thought about the surefire's, but having looked at pictures of them in use I didn't care for the light they put out. I needed something that had a lot more spill light as my purpose for the light is home protection. I have the best of both worlds, bright center beam and bright side light. You have to move a decent amount to the side to get out of the blinding light, and even then the spill light bothers your eyes a lot still.
Anyway, I don't see any problems with getting that light. If you want to spend more than twice the amount on a surefire, go right ahead. If you want an incandescent light that will run at full brightness for maybe 45 minutes then go dead shortly after, be my guest. I have light that is bright enough to be useful long after a normal light goes dead due to the LED this light uses. I will do a test soon to see how long it takes the light to lose enough power to not be effectively bright enough. I know the batteries I take out of my surefire lights that barely produce the dimmest orange glow, that doesn't even throw any light out anymore.. produce bright light in my TLR-1. |

I also have a TLR-1 and love it. Like jednp said, it puts out good light and stays brighter longer than a regular light. Another thing I like about it is the fact that it's made out of aluminum rather than plastic and has a shock proof LED. I personally like the attachment screw and the non sliding notch. When I screw it down, it's there and you can't bump the button and dislodge it. It only takes a few seconds to attach and screw it down.

My experience with the M6 with the ALser (Isight) has been awesome. I've dropped this light into a concrete floor, and two occasions, and ha no problems. I continously move and adjust the laser for each gun, and the Laser never drifts.
I'm extremly happy with it, but I think for the price Insight should provide a clip on carrying pouch. |

I have a TRL-1 on my XD.45ACP Tac, and it hasn't seen that problem with the finish.
After putting 100 rounds of cheap and dirty range ammo through it, I wipe (not scrub, just wipe) it with a rag and it's like it's brand new. The light output is enough to dazzle you if you're the target, but also not sunlight bright that'll blind the person behind the gun.
