Fobus Holsters?

What can anyone tell me about this brand of holster? The prices seem good enough, I noticed a couple of the state police Detectives wearing them. I just haven't seen much talk about them on this forum.

Fobus holsters have both good and bad aspects.

Good: retention is excellent, draw is smooth with a firm tug required, plastic is durable and does not retain moisture, inexpensive.

Bad: hardness of the plastic causes wear on the finish of the pistol, rivets holding the parts together are not super (a pistol can be snapped off the belt loops while still in the holster, stand off from the body is a bit much(for me).

Try one out and see if you like it. If you don't, it's inexpensive, no big loss.

If you want a decent cheap holster, the Uncle Mikes is much better (generally found under $20) I've seen a few Fobus holsters in the trash can after a match from people tired of the wedgie they get on the draw.

i've had mine for almost a year and have been very happy with it. i'd vernture a guess that i've worn it close to every day, give or take a few. i have the newer model, that has the adjustment screw, to adjust how tight it grips the gun. i've never had concerns with it breaking. in fact, after i bought it, i bought the blackhawk cqc holster, and thought that paddle attachment on that was much flimsier than the fobus.

I just don't like the rivets above the slide. They make it ugly. And I wish the made a IWB for the XD.

I have a Fobus paddle for my Glocks that I have been using for about 3 or 4 years now.

The rivets are starting to loosen up and the holster flops a bit more now. I don't ccw with it much anymore, but I did when I first got it.

Often you can find them on lline for about $15. At that price they have no equal. If you can only find them near their list price of $24 take a look at the Uncle Mikes, Galco Matrix M7, and Blade Tech injection molded holsters. All of them are in the same price range and I think they are better holsters.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't think to look for injection molded holsters from Blade Tech. I had always just looked at the ones available on Old Schools web site.

Fobus XD Holsters

Several years ago I bought a Fobus XD holster for my daughter. The quality and features were just OK, but worth the asking price.

Recently I came into another XD and decided to get a holster for myself. Not wanting to plunk down too much money I ordered a paddle holster from the Fobus website. I was pleasantly surprised! Over they years Fobus had made a few, but critical, improvements. First, they backed the rear of the paddle with 'grippy' rubber to keep the holster from sliding around on your belt and it works quite well. Next, they added a metal strip along the paddle/holster joint area. I understand this was a common point of failure and needed reinforcing. Lastly, and perhaps most important, they added an adjustable tensioning screw so you can 'tune' the retention level. Works great. I love mine. I just wish they would make it in a roto-holster model (I'm a southpaw and Fobus doesn't make a left handed roto model for the XD).

I saw that they had added the tension adjustment. I didn't know about the other improvements.

I may have to look at another Fobus holster for my new XD.

I was thinking of emailing Fobus to see if they had any intentions of offering the roto system for us southpaw's any time soon.
