leather SOB and other stuff
Howdy,
In response to the all-leather SOB question, I'm sure I could do one but am not doing them in leather as a regular production item. I will be expanding the leather line this summer but will still be primarily a hybrid holster guy. Also here's a copy of a post I put up at glocktalk awhile back regarding SOB's and the REALITY of wearing them thanks //copy follows-----------------> With all due respect to anyone who doesn't like or has had a bad experience with an SOB holster, they have a pretty bad rap that is not entirely deserved. It is true that they are not for everyone, the consenus seems to be that those who like them, LOVE them and those who don't HATE them. With that said and clearly understood, they do have some advantages for some folks. For me they are very comfortable and I prefer them over an IWB when the situation permits. The primary disadvantage that they do have is that they WILL print strongly if one bends at the waist say to pick something up off the ground. The trick here is to squat down and pick it up. Also if you are going to be in a situation such as a ball game where you will be sitting bent forward with your elbows on your knees then again it WILL print big time. However for lots of walking or standing, I find them to be the most comfortable way to carry in that type situation. As far as back injuries, yes I suppose if you fell directly on one it could cause an injury, however positioning it just to the strong side of the spine is a good idea. Also, with respect, I have fallen/gone to the ground PLENTY of times and never landed on mine or landed in such a position that I would have had it been on. As far as "thunking" when sitting down, once again, yeah if you just "flop" into a chair that might happen, however sitting in a normal manner pretty much prevents this as well. As far as accessability, I find mine FASTER (but not by alot) than an IWB even when wearing a jacket or heavy overshirt. The trick here is to sweep your hand up under the garment and draw the gun, immediately "dropping" it out from under the garment and sweeping it up to the target in one smooth motion. ("smooth is fast") This is much smoother and faster than the new SOB wearer who generally tries to lift the garmet completely clear and then draw. And no, snagging is not a problem when doing this, just keep the firearm close to the body till it clears the bottom edge of the garment Once again, no they are not for everyone and they do have thier limitations, BUT they are not the holster spawn from h^ll that they are painted to be sometimes. Finally here is what a customer of mine had to say about his....... ""Type firearm, "officers" size 1911 (holster will fit all 1911 style pistols). Preferred carry, SOB, 25ish degree fwd cant. Holster fit/finish/materials- The holster is Very Simple.. no fancy stuff. It consists of a flat single piece of leather (smooth side towards gun, rough towards back) with a kydex 'slide' and clip attached by smooth rivets or buttons of some kind (these seem to be rivets, but both sides are completely smooth... very nice attachment) Holster attaches to the waistband much in the same way as the Galco "NSA" series, with one clip to the left of the firearm. The holster is held in place mainly by belt pressure. The Kydex has the familiar 'snap' and positive retention, and is fitted superbly... it loosens itself to a comfortable draw stroke in 50-75 presentations, yet keeps positive retention well. (I am extremely active, and can assure you that the holster will hold the gun well even through some rather vigorous ground fighting....) I am in no way ashamed to tell you that it has taken the place of my usual IWB by a large name custom holstermaker whom will remained unnamed, but charges about 3X what you do. Congrats on the new Answer! Hey I used to live in Robeson Co., how bout hookin a brotha up cuz? LOL You can have my holster ready by Tuesday the 16th. I'll be coming through Robeson County at about 90MPH in a group of bikes on my way to MB. I won't have time to stop so just hold it out on a stick, I'll take care of the rest!
No really, have a blast with that holster, I guess the rest of us suckers will have to buy one, thanks to the great marketing by Rob! Keep everyone informed of how well it works!
