Lacquer-Stik Techniques to Highlight Engraving
I recently purchased a lacquer stick and I am having trouble with smearing. Is there a proper technique to apply the product to ensure a high-quality finish?
I want to highlight the engraving on the slide. I apply the product then clean excess off with cardboard then rub area with newspaper. Problem is smearing on the slide. Using a silver lacquer pencil. I tried the crayon method and it does not look professional to me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I know there is a previous posting related to this subject matter but it did not describe in detail how to "professionally" do-it-yourself (oxymoron I know). Thanks

Put some oil on that paper, and fill in the letters wipe off say 80 % of the excess then let it sit for about an hour. Put oil on the newspaper and gently wipe once, then with a new peice and oil wipe gently again. Slow is good.

I heeded your advice and it turned out great. However, it seems the process is not drying as quick as would think. Over ten hours later, there remains slight smearing on certain areas. Any advice on expediting the drying process without damage to the job or slide itself? Thanks.

i used lighter to do mine i rubbed on the crayon really really good then wiped some of the extra then took a bic lighter and warmed the slide from the inside till the wax melted then let it cool and then take some newspaper and rub it off in small circular motion. I think it turned out good the people I showed thought it was a factory job tell I told them I did it.
