Adjustable IWB, XD 40, southpaw, skinny dude.

Howdy all.

My CPL will be here shortly, so its time to start thinking of getting myself a decent holster.

Background: Pretty skinny guy, 167lbs, 6'2". As the title states, I'm a lefty.
I would prefer to have a single holster that I could use for multiple situations. I would like something I could easily conceal with just a t-shirt, yet be able to tuck in a shirt for more formal settings with the same holster. I've decided on 8:00 carry (thats 4:00 for you right handed folks.), right behind my left hip. I've experimented carrying around the house mexican style (not loaded of course), and have found that the most comfortable and concealed carry option behind my left hip is with a forward cant, so that adds another complication to my selection process.

I've looked at the CTAC holster. I don't care if it's leather or not, but I would like to keep it under 90 bones. The CTAC is pretty appealing to me, as it appears (and so I've read) that you can conceal it very easily with just a shirt, or with a tucked-in shirt if one should so choose. The adjustability also appeals to me.

Any of you skinnier guys use a CTAC holster, and if not, what would you recommend? I'm pretty set on the CTAC, just wanted to see if anyone in my situation has any input.

I have no info about holsters for you, but what size XD do you have? I'm in the same position you are, when it comes time for me to be able to carry next year I'm wondering what skinnier guys use for holster, especially if they have a service model xd. So now I won't have to ask this question later on. I've been pointed toward the c-tac too, so hopefully some skinny guys will comment on them.

Ah crap. Forgot to add that part. I've got an XD 40 service. I find that carrying it just behind my left hip makes it almost invisible. I was pretty amazed.

only thing I'm concerned about is bending over, and the grip printing when it comes time for me to carry. I have no mass to my body so I think I'd have some problems.

The CTAC is a great holster. Get the "slide" model and you can carry different barrel lenghts if the need should ever arise. I'm thin but not as thin as you and I carry at 4:00. Very comfortable. Comp-tac recommends the full clips. I got the full and "c" clips. Both work great. Not much else to say except I think you'll be happy with it. Comp-tac.com only took a week to get it to me and they said they had to make it.

Try the CTAC

I'm a lefty also, although not a bean pole like you. The CTAC is great. Very comfortable, adjustable, quick delivery and great service. I ordered my with the C-clips but have since gone over to the V-clips which are ultra-concealable. You won't be dissappointed. As for printing when you bend over, there's really no getting away from that, especially if you're thin. The best you can do is bend at the knees, which you should do anyway if you're bending to lift something, and most important, just don't sweat it. I find that if I don't worry about it and unconsciously draw attention to it, no one else notices either, unless they are a gun-guy looking for it. Most people are so ignorant of their surroundings (ie: sheep or sheople) that they don't notice anything that doesn't directly concern them. Good for us, bad for them.

Try the CTAC. I love mine. And I used to carry my 1911's in a Milt Sparks Versa Max II so I was used to very comfortable leather. I find the leather/kydex combo just as comfortable in the CTAC

Good luck,

M

Id recommmend the Versa Max 2 by Milt Sparks. It is about 100 bucks though. It had kydex clips you can get to make it tuckable - but keep in mind though I have those - I have never used them once. You probably wont either. Get the horsehide if you do because it deals better with sweat. This is by far the most comfortable holster Ive ever tried. It makes carrying so much better. You def need to look at this option. Though my downfall is I have never tried a CTAC but hope to get one soon. Many people said it the kydex dig un their side plus I wanted leather as it wears in and molds to you plastic doesnt. Let us know the result.

im a lefty and recently got the uch made by bladetech. i ordered it from pistol gear and simply love it . technically its not a tuckable holster but i used it with a shirt tucked in before and it worked . the only thing is im not skinny im 5'9" at 220 lbs so if it helps i carry it a little behind my left hip with the foward cant and it works for me with basket ball jerseys t shirts and you can kind of see it with light tank tops on. the only suggestion i can make is get a good belt with this holster and it should do the job for you

I love the Milt Sparks stuff to but one guy posted on this forum that the Versa Max 2 was going to take 20-30 weeks to make and ship! That's nuts.
