Good CCW solution for an office geek?

Ok, so it is going to be a while before I'm confident with my new XDSC9 to be carrying it all the time, but that is my goal. With that end in mind I ask you guys what works in an office environment where there is a lot of sitting at a desk, and going to meetings, etc. I'm a software architect and I need to find a very discreet way to carry regularly.

I already keep my wallet, keys, phone, etc in a hip pack now. Does anyone have a fanny pack holster they are happy with? It seems like most of the ones I have found look either cheap in material or too small to hold my gun and all the other crap I like to keep in there..

I can't imagine having a IWB or OWB holster. It just wouldn't work for my environment, I don't think. Lots of sitting and standing. And I don't wear a coat or sports jacket. Going with my shirt untucked is not an option.

If you have a fanny pack and you like it, please let me know. The only one I've ever seen that looked worth trying was the Fanny Pack With Extra Pocket from Red Diamond. Anyone have one?

Are any of you guys sitting behind a desk in an office most of the day? What do you carry in?

Thanks!

i don't know quite how formal, etc your office environment is but i'm a huge fan of the Maxpedition packs... do a search as there are a few good threads i've posted with links, etc on them.

aside from that, get a good tuckable holster like the C-Tac, tucker answer, or crossbreed.

i have the tucker texas heritage... i can carry my XD9SC no problem with flannel slacks and a dress shirt. i don't have a problem sitting/driving/anything. also, if you're having a really tough time w/ the small butt pack, consider getting a little kel-tec or something. won't be as nice as the XD but will still allow you to carry.

good luck!

I am in a similar situation and have been thinking about the Smart Carry: www.smartcarry.com. My office doesn't have a problem with an untucked shirt for us techie guys. That's just the way it is they seem to think. Otherwise I occasionally wear a vest even when I am not carrying so they are accustomed to seeing me in one.

These people have some items you might consider.

I have one of their jackets. It's very well made.

I've been considering one of their jackets for some time.
How do the elastic holsters work?
Do they get streched out?

Elastic, by its very nature, gets stretched out as it ages. Certain things, such as exposure to heat (and possibly exposure to higher levels of ozone) also contributes to degrading of the material. The leather seems likely to outlast the elastic. However, replacing the elastic should be relatively easy and inexpensive.

I sit at a desk (different job than yours) but I have my XD40 Tactical exposed, which is bad for you..... do you really want to wear a fanny pack all day? toss it in an ankle rig.....

i was trying to find the one i got on ebay but it's not their... this one seems promising:

http://cgi.ebay.com/BRAND-NEW-Bianch...QQcmdZViewItem

and this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ANKLE-HOLSTER-LA...QQcmdZViewItem

this one looks the most like the one i got:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Ankle-Holster-Gl...QQcmdZViewItem

only think i don't like is that it's hard to adjust the "cant", if you can call it that on an ankle. mine does have a TON of velcro (Like a 3"x4" patch and my skinny legs don't need it all) so i can put it on a bit of an angle.

the key for me is putting it on over a good, comfortable sock.... snugging it down about 1-2 inches BELOW where i want it and then pulling the holster up higher on my leg. i will say that for tighter dress pants, i go without the pearce extension grips.

good luck and let us know what you decide!
