Ed-
since getting my "man purse" i've been very wary of carrying in a bag, etc... if i'm going to be robbed/mugged then the bag will be the primary target. are you concerned at all about being stopped and then having to hand over your gun under duress? also, i'd be worried about going to the bathroom, etc and leaving the bag around and it disappearing. then, it's a whole big legal mess reporting a missing firearm. i could just be paranoid... there aren't any real good holster options or smart carry for you? |

I've been thinking about getting one of these three bags from Coronado Leather:
City Traveler Cross Carry Bag Sonoma Carry Case Anyone have any of these? I'm curious how you like them. Having a brown one of any of these three bags would allow me to basically wear it constantly. If I did need to take it off for some reason at work, I could lock it in my desk drawer and be pretty confident it would be there when I got back. Thoughts? Thanks! Mojo

Yeah, I hear ya about the bathroom and legality issues. It's not a problem in my work environment, or at least I consider the risk small enough to take the chance. But, yes, it is left unattended when I'm using the restroom or away from my desk resolving tech issues. I do take it with me when going to lunch.
I consider my work environment low-risk for theft because of the relationship I have with everyone in a relatively small office (50 or so people). No one would target my laptop bag (my version of the man purse) because they were after valuable contents -- the laptop is out and on the desk while I'm at work and it appears to be empty of anything but gum, advil, and pens/pencils to the observer. It's not a guarantee that it will be safe, but I've determined that it's the best of my options. I'm certainly open to suggestions. As with all of us, YMMV because your environment is unique to you and different from mine. I certainly couldn't have done it this way at my last job. Ed

In my environment, blending in is my best cover. By using a regular looking "book bag" as my laptop carrier, no one even knows I have a laptop in it unless they see me pulling it out at work. I use one of these: ![]() My AO is in a very high end of town (NE Scottsdale) and there is virtually a 0% crime rate for muggings/shake downs. Plus, I'm not exactly the kind of guy that would usually get targeted for a robbery -- I'm no super hero, but let's just say that I don't look like an easy snatch & run victim. Overall, it's always a trade off. There is no perfect, one-size-fits-all solution for everyone. This is my best option, so far, IMO. Ed

Something you didn't mention, which is important, is your body type. Depending on body shape, some people can get away with tuckable holsters and dress shirts more easily than others.
Opinions from people of similar build would probably be more helpful to you than from people with different builds where concealed carry on your person are concerned.

If you aren't tied to having the gun secured on your person, maybe these would work for you. They are definitely more in line w/ a business environment than a fanny pack.

i do not carry on my person at work, but i do carry in my laptop case as well. and i leave it when i go to the restroom (see above) and when i go to lunch. and if i need to convert to on person carry, i have both an ankle rig and a tucker rig in my laptop case at all times. it works for me. may not work for anyone else.
