Conversion barrel pros & cons

I just picked up an XD-40 service. I'm looking for some opinions on a conversion barrel to 9mm. Is it as simple as a barrel swap? Can I use the OEM 40 guide rod & spring with the 9mm barrel? If not, what is a recommended guide rod and spring for basic target practice? Is there one particular brand of conversion barrel recommended? Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Most are drop in, if there is some fitting it will be very simple and you can call and have them talk you through it. You can keep the guide rod and spring some recommend that you get 9mm mags but I use my .40 mags in my 9mm with not problems.

Check out the vendors that sponsor XD talk they carry barrels.

for half the price of conversion kit, why dont you just buy a 9mm for additional ha;f price. You have two gun and no need to worry if one something happen. Atleast you have back-up.
Its impractical to buy just the conversion barrel than the whole gun. Any way its your money, im just giving some points. Not to waste money. hehehe

Good point. I justified the purchase of a conversion barrel by getting the threaded and extended barrel to fit a suppressor. Even if I bought a second gun I would have had to bought a threaded and extended barrel for it. And they were the same price for 9mm or .40 to 9mm conversion.
