I use the M6X its older bigger brother on XDM and HUGE fan of insight.

Layzie, I'm not sure if you've looked since July but from the lasermax website (below) it looks like the guide rod system will work with the subcompact but not the XDM and the 4" and 5" models with XDM-like barrel lugs...
*Attention*

Springfield Armory has released a new barrel lug configuration on their existing 4" and 5" XD line of handguns which mirrors the XDM. The diagram shown below indicates the differences in the two barrel lug designs that are currently available. Please be advised that our Lasermax Guide Rod Lasers were not designed to be used with this new barrel lug configuration and unfortunately do not fit properly. Please check your Springfield XD handgun (with a 4" or 5" barrel length) before you order one of our Guide Rod Lasers.

Our Guide Rod Laser fits this version

CT button on grip

A queston or you guys who have the Crimson Trace:

When you want to turn the laser off, do you have to back off with the middle finger that presses the button? Doesn't that change your grip so you're grasping the handle with two fingers and a thumb instead of three fingers and a thumb?

If you are trying to just hide it while clearing Crimson Trace recommends that you just slip your pointer finger up to cover the laser. That allows you to have the laser on and useful we you put your finger on the trigger for action and you will not have to change your grip. If you go to their website and watch the videos you will see. They are full of good info.

Another vote for the crimson trace grips. I have had them for over a year and have fired +1000rounds with them on and off over and over. Still work great. The only complaint I have is the on/off switch. I like the switches on their grips for 1911s and j-frames and such better.

You let up a tiny bit of pressure with the middle finger. No where near having to take your finger off the front of the grip
