Grip Enhancment

I realize theres lots of options as far as decals, and stick-ons. I really don't want to make the grip area any larger, so i'm looking for options on permanently changing the actual grip surface. Any info on companies that provide resurfacing options, and any experiences any forum members have on the services would be greatly appreciated.

You could get the grip area stippled. I'm not familiar with shops that do them for XD's. It shouldn't be any different than stippling Glock frames.
There are different methods but here's an example..

There are a few ways to do it. The ballsier of us have stippled their own grips with a modified soldering iron. I am not that ballsy. I have been meaning to send mine to Heretage Firearms to get it done, but I would miss the gun too much, and I'd have to carry my old Beretta while its gone. I think Barsto does it as well, but is much pricier. Bowie Tactical has some great looking stuff online as well. Check out these threads:

Hope this helps, MC

Heritage Arms in Texas did my XD for $50 (which included return freight). Tom is a great guy and knows what he is doing.

I have the AGrip applied to both my XD40SC and my Kahr PM40. Works well on both. Feels like suede and very secure. Can no longer spray down the frames with solvent though as it would loosen the adhesive.

that kraigster bicycle tube grip would be cheap, and I don't imagine it adds anything noticable to the girth

dude, skateboard tape! get a whole roll from home repo or lowe's and do all you guns. it works great and i use brake cleaner to clean my entire collection which is quite large and it won't harm the xd frame nor does the tape come off. i guess it would if you soaked it in the cleaner but i just wipe the outside down with rem oil. trust me, the least expensive and really that is all the a grips are, cut them yourself and save some cash for mags and ammo. mine is the od green frame and the black tape really sets it off with my tiger striped upper from mac's restoration in tucson! i'll take a pic

Ok, I know this is bringing up an old thread, but I was wondering if anyone had tried using truck bedliner (a la "Springfield Custom / Robar") over the grip.

The thought of the bedliner crossed my mind when I did my grip. I ended up doing the soldering iron thing instead (I'm very happy with it as well). In my testing, I did put some bedliner (spray can type) on a water pistol and it felt ok. I just liked the rougher texture of the stippling better. I have also used the roll on bedliner on the stock of my Savage and it seems to work ok. It's a little rough on the cheek though. I would still recommend the soldering iron trick. It's actually very easy once you get past the thought of permanately altering your frame.

I have a permanent grip enhancement that is similiar to grip tape, but without the tape. It is permanent and much more agressive than stippling. I can also do grip reduction at the same time.
