Gun Law Decision 'Frightening,' Chicago Mayor Braces for NRA Attack

WASHINGTON -- Gun-control advocates across the country reacted with shock and outrage at the Supreme Court's decision to strike down the District of Columbia's ban on handguns today, saying the ruling would threaten gun-control measures in other states. If there was any doubt that other bans would be in peril, the National Rifle Association quickly put those questions to rest when it announced... [New York Times, via gunpolicy.org ]

Didn't take Obama long to bring up children"
“I have always believed that the Second Amendment protects the right of individuals to bear arms, but I also identify with the need for crime-ravaged communities to save their children from the violence that plagues our streets through common-sense, effective safety measures,” he said.

"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms. . . disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. . . Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." -- Jefferson`s "Commonplace Book," 1774-1776

“Does this lead to everyone having a gun in our society?” he said at a news conference. “If they think that’s the answer, then they’re greatly mistaken. Then, why don’t we do away with the court system and go back to the Old West? You have a gun and I have a gun and we’ll settle in the streets.
My favorite part, guess he thinks that is whats happening in the other 47 states

Found this in another article:

Quote:
Pamela Bosley lost her 18-year-old son two years ago, when a bullet struck him as he helped a fellow student unload instruments outside a South Side Church.

"If you didn't have the guns, we'd still have our children," she said.

Annette Nance-Holt, whose 16-year-old son was killed on a city bus last spring when someone sprayed bullets inside it, was livid with the court's decision.

"I'm still trying to figure out who we are more in love with, our children or our guns," she said. "It's crazy. I'm safer being a deer knowing people are hunting you."
Makes me want to throw up. I bet their "children" were active members of... a... "group" other than Boy Scouts, let's say...

I'd like to find TRUE statistics on the number of people killed by a stray bullet in a drive-by or some similar act of violence each year.

Well ya, that's why we call it the Supreme Court. The sad part is that it will take further action. The logical action would be for Chicago to say "in accordance with the highest court in the land's ruling, the land we call free, we are withdrawing all gun control laws."
