Gun Death and Gun Control: US Big-city Mayors Brace for DC Gun Ruling

The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to soon issue a ruling in the Washington, D.C. gun case and Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin worries that cities may be hampered in their crime-fighting efforts if the justices strike down the D.C. gun control laws. "If the justices agree with the lower court's ruling, cities and states throughout the country may face challenge after challenge to the constitutionality... [Atlanta Journal-Constitution (Georgia), Editorial, via gunpolicy.org ]

The result:

Same as everywhere else gun laws have been relaxed. More citizens will carry. More criminals will shift their attention from physically violent crimes to property crimes.

The real fear these mayors have is that people will begin to see themselves as self-sufficent individuals and not as government dependents. Big city mayors generally want power and focus as the "answer" to everything in everyone's lives.

Its a sad day when the govt. is afraid of citizens exercising their rights.

HELLLoooooo, THAT is exactly the point!

Have faith, the tide is turning. Slowly, but it IS turning.

More and more folks are seeing through the liberal/socialist BS and turning back to self sufficiency and personal responsibility.

Sad to say but I don't agree. I think it's going to get worse, especially if Obama gets elected.

this reminds me of that scene in V for Vendetta where the chancellor is screaming at his subordinantes "I WANT THEM TO REMEMBER WHY THEY NEED US!"
