Virginia Firearm Enthusiast Loses, Finds Stolen .50cal Machine Gun

PEARISBURG -- No one was supposed to know John Billos had a Browning M2 .50-caliber semi-automatic stored in his workshop, so when the 85-pound, $9,000 weapon and 11 boxes of its bullets went missing, he panicked. But after more than three months of worrying and searching, the Giles County Sheriff's Office recovered the gun June 5 in Princeton, W.Va. They have warrants charging a... happy ending to a story that never should of happened.

Imagine the hoopla if that thing were used in a crime!

unlikely I know.. but still you never know with the crummy people out there.

Hopefully this guy learned his lesson and will keep this thing locked up tighter than keeping it in his shed.

Excuse me?! The dude has a full-bore .50 cal machine gun and he doesn't have it secured?!

I believe that I have just found a new definition for "dumba$$"...

I mean, really, just how far up your a$$ does your head have to be for the fumes to get bad enough that you think it's okay to leave a weapon like this in a place where someone can walk in and take it away?

It's irresponsible a$$hats like this that give the rest of us gun owners trouble with the rest of the herd...

Good Lord...

I wouldn't go that far. Is not a locked structure, with the weapon out of site not good enough?? I'm one for gun safes and lockers, but other than firearms, how many potentially dangerous things do you keep locked up?? How many guns stores keep items locked in a safe?? I've got building equipment, receivers, partial builds and builds just needing to have the furniture installed in my garage...does that make me an asshat too?? Yea, don't blame the criminal...do you use trigger locks on all your weapons?? You know that they come in the box with the weapon and even shows how to use them and recommends it in the owners manual. Cops keep secondary firearms in their cars, I can think of about 50 stolen from vehicles over the last 2 years...are they asshats too??

yes you're a horrible horrible person...

We all know that guns are the leading cause of baby death in America.
All your guns should have their bores welded closed when not in use.

In case you couldn't tell that was an attempt at sarcastic comedy!

I probably failed at it though...
sorry...

What I got from the story was that it was just some old backyard shed.
If I had something like that I would keep it locked up quite a bit tighter than that...

I don't blame the guy because yeah it was locked up..

My complaint is more about jealousy.

If I had something like THAT, a horribly expensive machine gun... I would cherish that to no end and would probably keep it chained next to my bed at night.

Throw it in a safe, and who's stopping anyone from stealing the safe?

If you really don't want a gun getting stolen, melt it down, or send it to me. I'll keep it safe

Enter text here. How is a machine gun semi-automatic (only)?

And how did a Browning M2, if it was really an NFA/Class 3 MACHINE GUN, only run him 9 grand?

He's ex-SWAT, so that might have something to do with it.

A family friend who is in the DEA has a couple automatics hanging around his place.
