Assault Weapons in Florida: What's a Few Dead Cops to the Gun Lobby?

The shock was in the weight of the thing. Less than six pounds. It was a cop's weapon, a semiautomatic assault rifle of dull anodized black steel, stripped down to an unadorned functionality. How light it felt in my hands. Like a toy gun. I thought how easy it would be for some kid, some 110-pound wild-dog street punk, to heft an AR-6520 and wield it to hellish effect. ... I'm sick of reading liberal garbage like this. I'm tired of the "musket" argument and how the 2A wasn't intended for powerful weapons. This flawed logic could apply to all the bill of rights . . . What exactly is an "unlawful" search and seizure. Freedom of speech / press is now obsolete because their ideals don't fit into the constraints of the timeframe of the constitution. It's funny how much people like the author like to be controlled and told what to do . . . their lives are complete because they have something to fear and that makes them feel righteous. I'd like to wish a home invasion on this guy, but that would only give him more fuel. Like that bitch Cindy Sheehan, this guy would use a family tragedy to further his bull**** agenda.

What an arsehat for a writer.

First off, there is no such thing
as a semiautomatic assault rifle.

They're semiautomatic rifles which
LOOK like assault rifles.

An assault rifle is an assault rifle,
select fire - burst and/or full auto.

Looks are very deceiving to the
uninformed.

This nut will get his hands on a
full auto paint gun one of these
days, and Katie bar the door.

Indeed, I did. Probably got marked as "spam" though. They don't like to read, y'know, facts.

The danger has become painfully obvious to any department in the vicinity of Miami-Dade County.
Well, DUH! Look at the area they're talking about! The problem doesn't lie in the guns, it lies in the criminals. There is plenty of crime in Miami.

Ugh.... Miami sucks ass. Yes, I said it! Don't even get me started on the Herald and it's web of political BS tie-ins. Sure there's plenty of crime here, but it's not much different or tougher any other big city. It's not like you have to look over your shoulder every five minutes to avoid being mugged or shot.

Apologies for the rant beforehand, but this topic just gets me heated. As much as I'd never leave or risk feeling homesick, I still hate the wannabe-posh Miami's turning into. It's all about government corruption and appeasing only to the very rich, screwing the low and middle classes. This place used to have so much soul, too - It's such a shame that such a cool city has become a cesspool in just over a decade.

But as LeVar Burton says in Reading Rainbow - "You don't have to take my word for it..."
