Relaxed Gun Controls, Unlicensed Sales Help Fuel California Gun Violence

OAKLAND -- Seventeen-year-old Dominique Nubie stood on a West Oakland street corner talking about what matters in his life. "Guns "... everybody here has guns," he said, motioning around. Instead of the usual high school concerns about finishing homework or making the basketball team, Dominique worries most about survival in a neighborhood where many of his peers own guns. Oakland... The crime problem is, and always has been, largely because of big cities. Cram a lot of people together and you get crime. Spread them out, like in a rural area, and you have lower crime.

Just compare a rural state like Vermont with NYC or D.C. Perhaps comparable populations (an entire small state vs a single large city).

sort of, cramped and poverty strickened populations create crime. Poverty is pretty much the cause of crime. For instance if everyone made 60k a year, most of these robberies, home invasions, and stuff would almost disappear off the radar.

""If I got a gun, I feel like I can't be touched, like I'm the man," said one 18-year-old who said he never shot a gun, but has held one."

Why are these anti-whatever groups always blaming inanimate objects for problems? "It's the gun's/ video game's/ violent movie's/ porn's fault. It's never the fault of the people.

Don't forget Marylin Manson.

This is one of the driving reasons behind kids killing eachother with guns. I was raised in a house where my parrents took me shooting on a monthly basis. I now in return take my 10 year old brother out shooting. He is around guns, and has a healthy respect for them. I have seen on a few occasions him telling a grown adult that they are mishanleing a firearm. he knows the dangers and the impact of guns and would NEVER missuse them.
you cannot put a child near a skill saw, without explaining and showing him how to use it. Then expect him to have all his fingers when he is done.
Feeling powerfull with a gun is an issue of the parrents not properly raising there children with respect for their tools.

If everyone made at least $60k/year the price on everything would go up and you would still have robberies and home invasions because $60k would be the new poverty level.

Criminals are just greedy thugs that are never satisfied with what they have. It's not an issue of money, it's an issue of morality.

if everyone had a college degree to make 60k, for the most part, there would be a lot less poverty and therefore a lot less crime. Guarantee you most of the people in prison arent people with college degrees. Education is always the long term solution to poverty. Govt spending on social programs is always the short term solution. Criminals rob because they dont have the means (no education etc) or will (lazy) to legally make money, not because they want more and more. Everyone wants more and more criminal or not.

Well you're wrong, dumbass!

Retards like this are the reason California has so many issues.

In all cases, it's the belief that the gun, and not the person holding it, is somehow responsible for peoples' safety!

Quote:
The Federal Assault Weapons Ban outlawed the sale or possession of 19 types of assault weapons — defined as semiautomatic firearms with specific characteristics allowing rapid-fire shooting, which includes most handguns.
Obviously, this journalist has never actually READ the AWB.

Still, C.J. said he does not expect to get shot. He said it is usually people arguing who shoot at each other, and he avoids arguments.
At least there's one smart person in all of Oakland.
