US Gun Control's Political Backers Not Confident of Gains, Even in 2009

Lawmakers who favor gun control are not optimistic about next year even though Democrats may be running Congress and the White House. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.), the sponsor of legislation that would reinstate the expired federal assault weapons ban, dismissed the idea that her bill might pass in the 111th Congress. One of the mistakes the democrats made were putting up Conservative Democrats for election in 2006. they won but do not walk in lock step with the party. The same could hold true this year. While they are pushing a hard left socialist for the white house (as usual), only pro-gun, pro-life dems can win in many southern, rural areas. and these people do not always vote party line with pelosi and reid.
