New York: Each Microstamped Handgun Could Leave Mark at Crime Scene

ALBANY, New York -- Supporters are calling it a next generation crime-fighting tool. "I know all too well, dealing with the survivors of gun victims, they deserve to know who shot and killed their loved ones," said Michelle Schimel. Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel is leading a fight to get the Senate to pass the Assembly's microstamping bill. It will require every semi-automatic pistol... I know, we can pass a law that makes us inital each round with a sharpe before we fire it. that will prevent crime!

revolvers get around this real fast. I have also seen videos of how quickly microstamping can be evaded...it takes a few seconds and some household items.

whos to stop someone from buying pre micro stamping firing pins and replacing them. You can get screwed over if a criminal gets a hold of your casings.

+1

If criminals get into reloading don't expect to find any brass left at the scene.

Microstamping would require some raised relief on the barrel or chamber to impress the casing. I'd like to know they are going to enforce this when a good rat-tail file would easily defeat such a thing.

You know that they aren't trying to prevent anything. Hell I would be suprised if they even expect any of these pistols to be sold in the state at all.

What they are trying to do is drive the cost of making handguns so high that either a)the company would go bankrupt or b)they wouldn't sell handguns in their state at all EXCEPT of course to military and police forces which on any of these bills just happen to be exempt from microstamping.................or ammo serialization which is another door the antis are trying to wiggle though.

But what happens if you are shooting next to someone firing the same caliber? How would you know (assuming microstamping) that you picked up only your brass?

i used to watch a lot of CSI - they always went for the casings for evidence. To me, criminals are dumb. I always pick up my brass.
