People don't really realize it, but guns can be bought on the street for as little as $10.

You might have to pay $50 for a stolen Glock, though. Name-brand, you know...

I just mean getting every semi on my gun list before I start working on long guns and revolvers.

This is a pretty horrible idea. I quickly learned when I started reloading that as much as I try, it's nearly impossible to find every single piece of brass (at least at outdoor ranges). If it came to it that EVERY gun was microstamped, I certainly think I'd be grabbing the file. How long is the impression supposed to be good for anyway? It's not uncommon at all for firing pins to start to wear down over time.

Even if someone didn't file it down or replace it right away, what happens if it legitimately breaks? Will all replacement pins be microstamped. Will we have to register these along with the gun they are going to? There's no way this is any kind of "solution"
