US Moms Campaign to Close Gun Show Loophole, Reduce Child Shootings

On this Mother's Day, millions of American moms are receiving flowers, gifts and the special attention of loved ones. But approximately eight moms will receive something else today -- the news that one of their children has been killed by a gun. Another 48 moms will learn that a child has been shot, but has survived. On an average day in America, 56 children and teens are the victims... I think We (The Pro-Gun side) should just go ahead and close the "Loophole", and then the Antis can finally shut up about it!

Yeah, that has worked with every other issue they have chosen to harp about. Let's just give up all our rights then they will leave us alone. Kinda like the ACLU representing America's interest. It ain't gonna happen, might as well decide whether you are in the fight or not.

good call, maybe next when they start complaing about handguns in general we should just go ahead and ban those to so they will shut up about them..

there is no such thing as a "gun show loophole" none. period. its something they made up to get us one step closer to an all out ban on firearms. how many guns do you think are sold FTF in any given year compared to the number of guns sold at a gun show that are sold FTF in that same year.(dealers are not a FTF transaction)

whats next background checks on cars sold FTF?

The "Gun show loophole" is a term coined to describe the legal sale of firearms between private individuals at gun shows in states where this is legal. When these sales take place at a gun show, some perceive a "loophole" in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), although these laws have never applied to individual-to-individual sales of personal firearms. United States federal law requires persons engaged in interstate firearm commerce, or who are in the business of selling firearms, to hold a Federal Firearms License and to perform checks prior to transferring a firearm, but there is an exemption for private sales by individuals who are "not engaged in the business" of selling firearms, or who only make "occasional" sales. Unlicensed private sellers are permitted by law to sell privately-owned guns at gun shows, or at private locations, in 24 states (as of 199.[10]
Although gun shows remain a point of concern, a 1997 Department of Justice survey of 3,959 inmates found that only 2% stated that they had bought a gun used in a crime from a gun show. [11] The remaining 98% were obtained from other sources, in which the criminal had no direct connection with a gun show. The most common sources (35%) were family or friends.[12]

Naw, keep it open. All adults not presently incarcerated should be able to own a firearm.

Many of the restrictive gun control laws we have are questionable from a Consitutional standpoint, and when the Supreme Court returns its verdict and interpretation of the D.C. gun case sometime in June (as is expected), we will see which laws fall by the wayside. Then it will be time for gun owners to unite and push for Congressional censorship of those authors of any gun control laws ruled unconstitutional.

The real question that needs to be asked is how do you link guns bought at gunshows to accidental child deaths by firearms? If you use the logic these individuals do, then we shouldn't own automobiles of any kind.. in 2006 42,642 people died on America's highways. I guess I need to start a "coalition" to ban all automobiles becasue too many people die on the highway!

It feels like they did here in Western Warshington. I admit I have only bought empty brass, and things like that, but to buy anything else, you have to be a "member" of the WAC (Wash. Arms Collectors) and fill out a bunch of papers. Not sure if there is a background check, but I think so. I guess you could say "psst, meet me out back" but I don't think that happens really. But again, I haven't seen anything I wanted to buy there, so I could be wrong.
