Georgia Gun Shop Loses 75 Handguns, Assault Rifles to Thieves

MARIETTA, Georgia -- Police are asking for the public's help after a huge heist from Wild West Traders Gun Shop at 2445 Austell Road in Cobb County. It happened Thursday just before 4:30am. Three men somehow bypassed the alarm system and were captured on surveillance video hauling out 66 handguns, seven assault rifles and two pistol grip shotguns from the racks and display cases.... The same thing happened to another Cobb County, GA store that I go to a few weeks ago, C3 Sports Armory. They got a dozen or so ARs and handguns. Scary to think all these weapons may be floating around my county in the worst of hands.

The thieves of course are in deep doo-doo
since the have committed a felony against the
feds, since they stole from an FFL.

My dealer got hit up several years ago.
Luckily for him, they caught the two thieves
and he got all but one handgun back.

The problem was, and it appears to be the
same in this case, the thieves did not have
to work too hard to steal what they wanted,
simply because the firearms were not protected.

Yea, the place had an alarm and survelance
system, both by-passed. My dealer learned his
lesson and now gathers all the firearms up from
the display racks, shelves and cases and puts
them in a highly secure vault, which he should
have done to begin with. He admitted that he
did not put the firearms up each night as it
"was just too much trouble putting them up
at night and then putting them out during the
next morning". I told him that was a lame a*s
excuse.

Looks like ol' John Dillenger, the renowned bank
robber of past, had it right. Hello, when he wanted
money, he went to where the money was - the
frigging banks.

Appears that gun thieves are picking up on the
same tactic, go where the guns are.

Another excuse for me to add this - Lock Up
Those Firearms, keep your trap shut about what
you own. You never know who is listening!!

The other store I mentioned that was not highlighted in the story now does just that, after the Horse has left the barn. Their inventory on hand is now about 1/4 of what it was before too. I'm not sure if they're waiting on insurance payments before restocking or if this is a new way of doing biz. Sad, because this place is the closest to my house by far.

I would speculate that the thieves were
no ordinary Joe Blows who needed a firearm.

I peg these thieves as probably a newly
instituted 'gang'. Since they are illegal,
they went for the tools to protect their
turf and drug business as it would be near
impossible for them to buy that many
firearms, legally.

These guys are someone whom we should
wake up to also. They are bad news bears,
each and everyone. Plus, they are growing
in numbers daily.

True. I was in on Monday and the already slim selection has turned into downright anorexic.
