Gun Murder, Gun Robbery, Gun Rape Up 11-25% in Firearm-Friendly Florida

TALLAHASSEE, Florida -- The rate of serious crimes in Florida edged up in 2007 after years of declines, with a particularly alarming increase in the number of crimes involving guns. The overall crime rate -- factoring in population growth -- was up 1.4 percent in 2007, over where it was in 2006, according to data released by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. But for crimes... [Associated Press, via gunpolicy.org ]

Interesting how the article did not straight-up blame the guns. Am I smelling a tiny bit of lucidity in journalism?

All crimes are up everywhere. Maybe people need to read the newspaper. Check the economy. Check the jobs. Check the housing. Crime always rises in times of poor economic performance. Plus, people lose hope and become desperate.

Why doesn't this article draw a direct correlation between increase in guns per capita, and crimes rising. Because they can't. Guns have been around for hundreds of years, but many of these crimes haven't.

We have a social problem

We have a social problem
Actually, we have a social issue brought on by government.
Rats in a cage mentality by some, and those some will only get worse.

The bad thing is, I doubt its really started to get bad. We have seen a rise in violent crime even in our little neck of the woods, but its just a small percentage.
Charlotte on the other hand...its always been a festering pit of crime, and its starting to get to the point where everyones really standing up and taking notice...why? Because the crooks are now targeting upper middle class neighborhoods in daylight. If the norm were to continue as it were no one would have said much about it..but now that the soccer moms are worried...well, its time to do something...
The amazing thing is the advice they give to thwart it. The women that come out of the church meeting feeling like Chuck Norris after a pep talk about being more alert...gotta love the media...

I don't know.... it seems like every time I hear about Florida, something bad is going down. I keep telling my buddy that lives down there to look into getting some training and a firearm to protect himself (and his woman) but he just laughs it off. :T
