California Teacher Arrested After Students Find Handgun in Her Class

A Santa Ana elementary school teacher was arrested after students found a handgun and ammunition in the drawer of a supply cabinet of her classroom, officials said Thursday. Jayne DeArmond, 51, a third-grade teacher at Diamond Elementary School, was arrested on charges of felony possession of a firearm on a campus and misdemeanor child endangerment after students discovered the unloaded handgun... >Counseling has been made available to students and staff, Burrell said.

Oh, this is so ridiculous...

"We haven't had any gang problems, so why would she be worried so much that she would bring a gun into a classroom? Was it for her own protection?"
Gee, the rash of recent school shootings couldn't have anything to do with the reason she brought a gun to work, could it? And I'd hope they didn't have any gang problems, it's a FRIGGIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL!

Quote:
School police will be conducting an initial internal investigation of the incident, which will be followed by an administrative investigation into how the gun arrived on campus.
I'd assume she brought it with her?

Modern-liberalism continues to be a mental disorder for which there is seemingly no sure.

i would call it authoritarianism before liberalism.

authoritarianism is quite bipartisan. its the scourge of this country.

it has failed everywhere from Virginia tech to the 9/11 hijackings.

yet one of the least exposed times authoritarianistic "we can protect you better than you can"-idealism wasn't heard of much...

the appalachian school of law shooting on 2002JAN16 were stopped by armed students and faculty.

similarly, the NRA has news articles of times when handguns were used defensively, and there are 8 from south dakota alone.

since there were only 9 reported murder/non-negligent homicides to the FBI from South Dakota that seems like a pretty fair shake for those who defended themselves...

ETA: This pervasive "gun culture" is destroying our state

I won't comment on WHETHER OR NOT this woman should have brought a weapon to school. I know it's illegal, but I'm sure she had concerns that justified it in her mind.

But to leave the weapon where kids could get to it was STUPID and IRRESPONSIBLE. I don't care whether you're liberal or conservative, pro- or anti-gun, California, North Carolina, or anything else. Don't leave weapons where kids can get them !!!

Totally agree. That is just poor judgement.

Maybe she heard the story of the 11 3rd graders that had a plot to kill their teacher. They were caught with all the materials on them.

I believe she should have a right to bring a defensive weapon to school without legal consequences, but as a parent I also believe she should be fired for her irresponsible handling of the weapon. Leaving it in a spot accessible to children is just wrong.
