Clear Majority of Canadian MPs Vote to Scrap Long Gun Registry

OTTAWA -- MPs voted by a clear margin Wednesday to repeal the federal long-gun registry, signalling for the first time since the program was adopted 14 years ago that it is headed for the scrap heap, despite police assertions that it saves lives. A private member's bill, sponsored by Conservative backbencher Candice Hoeppner, had the backing of all the Tories, from Prime Minister Stephen Harper... [CanWest News Service, via gunpolicy.org ]

Excellent. Yet another failure of gun control, except politicians actualyl decided to listen to truth this time. Too bad Canada still lacks our sort of self-defense and carry laws.

good news, but they can never recover the BILLIONS of tax dollars that were wasted on that stupid stupid brain fart they called a "plan for safety". Law abiding farmers and hunters were forced to register (which included a fee). Meanwhile, I cannot imagine any criminals walked in to visit their local Mountie station for registration of their weapons.

Ah well, at least I am no longer a Canadian tax payer, so my money is no longer wasted on that crap.

rant done
