I'm sure Colt does make "non-mil-spec" ARs as well. Absolutely nothing is stopping Bushmaster or anyone else from stepping up as you mention, that would be a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

No, it was posted by NevadaXJ in an old "THE CHART" discussion thread. We started talking about some people taking the CHART as godspell for all AR purchases, and recommendations to fellow members.
Came about after several members would post a question like "I'm thinking of getting a X brand AR" and then some would post OH NO DON'T GET THAT IT'S JUNK then the OP would ask "why" and the answer would be "THE CHART".

Even if they lose the rights they still make one of the few guns that will pass the military's standards. So there will be no crap guns in US Service anytime soon. If a Bushy were to get selected it would have to pass muster something they can't do right now. Basically speaking if another company wants a contract they will have to bring their rifles up to a point they have just as many checks on the chart as Colt. Which would be a good thing for everyone. But their prices would also increase. There are other good brands such as LMT, BCM and Noveske. The anti chart folks however seem to think a crap 600 DPMS is just as good as a 1800 Noveske. Which is utter hogwash.

yeah yeah, pat. we know. i wish i had the coin for a noveske. and your argument is strangely similar to one that could be made about american auto companies (as bushy, for example) and the rest of the world (as colt).

side story...my buddy with a "driver experience" engineer for what is now a very large non-profit auto manufacturer. part of his job was to buy other cars, take them apart, and figure out if his company could build to that quality and how much it would cost/save. he told me he took apart a popular german manufacturer's car in the same price range as a competing model of his company, and they decided they could produce that quality of vehicle at any price...they simply didn't have the know-how or machinery. moral of the story? your chart is probably safe, pat...i'm guessing you won't see any encroachment on the holy land.
