New Law Limits Buyers to Maximum 13 Handguns a Year in New Jersey

TRENTON -- The New Jersey Legislature tackled more than 100 bills Thursday along with the state budget, in advance of lawmakers' summer recess. Gun-control advocates won a victory by the passage of a bill that could make New Jersey the fourth state with a one-handgun-per-month buying limit. Proponents say the bill will fight "straw" buyers who purchase guns legally and pass them on... [Philadelphia Inquirer, via gunpolicy.org ]

As much of an infringement as it is, who actually buys more than 13 handguns in a year anyway? The law is still wrong, but I can't imagine how much these folks are spending on guns.... YIKES...

Laws like this also serve to better allow the gov't to track exactly who has guns. The only way to determine if you already got your one gun this month is to maintain a gov't registry of all transactions. I think NJ already has such a registry anyway.

To state the obvious, many are concerned that allowing the gov't to track guns so precisely also allows the gov't a convenient means to seize all guns as an illegal act of gov't -- of course that would never happen, oh er, actually it did happen in New Orleans relatively recently.

That's exactly the attitude that let's these things happen. Oh it's wrong but it's not a big deal. Oh we only need guns for hunting anyway right? We don't really need concealed permits. That's what police are for. Etc.

It's 13 a year now, it's 1 a year later once people have accepted that any limit is legal by failing to challenge. This is Liberal-101 stuff here.

As mention it's 13, so will not strike much concern, but then becomes 12, still in general everyone is think it not a big deal.
This continues until it 2,1,0. It very basic government control, the biggest changes should always start off small, and continue over some length. Big changes that coming quickly, naturally rise alarm, and defensiveness.
