I have no problem with concealed carry, and am looking into it myself, however, I can say I wouldnt have felt totally safe knowing that there were handguns potentially available to my less responsible peers when I lived in the dorms.

I never had a worry about an armed intruder coming into the dorms and never felt the need to carry there. I did have friends that had direct experiences with armed individuals confronting them for money just off campus. Security was pretty tight in the dorms, not so much off campus. So, the thought def. crossed my mind to carry then.

Maybe some sort of gun vault/room with individual safes outside the dorms for rent during the semesters? Yes, I know, not ever going to happen.

Off-campus housing is much less structured and regulated than the dorms are. More people coming and going, more people living there, drinking there, etc. The dorms, with proper precautions made given the environment would be a high security facility in comparison.

Because the news media has portrayed to the public anyone with a gun could be the next fuse to be lit. You do not hear about the background checks a person goes through to get a CHL. All the public hears is negative crap, almost never about the lives saved by guns. The public also hears about the few nutjobs that were approved to buy the gun that ended up killing people.
I have never seen mass media or even such as 60 Minutes or 20/20 provide data showing how many lives are saved, or crimes stopped by gun owners.
Is it any wonder people want gun control or total banning of guns?
