Assault from IDPA HQ
I like shooting IDPA, but am a bit aghast at how folks at IDPA HQ treat people. If you post on the IDPA site and they don't like what you say, they refuse to have a discussion and close the threat (or just delete the post) after they get in a personal attack.

I am so glad that you chose to get on this forum and completely misrepresent what I told you on the phone. It seems you would rather go the route of those that blew the Travon Martin case into something other than what it was just to further their own cause.... (Robert Ray)

This was over some guy who was arguing an incorrect classifier and a major match crew that checked classification AFTER the match. I thought the guy was being mostly polite, though pointed. But he got attacked and the post was closed by a clearly frustrated IDPA exec.
May have to give up my primary shooting sport over this. Not to mention that Yuku has to provide the most unattractive free forum board ever.

There are plenty of shooting sports out there. If you have lots of money shoot 3 gun.
USPSA, Steel matches, Pro Am, Bianchi Cup, International Revolver Championship, all kinds of run and gun local matches.
However if you like the guys you shoot with at your local IDPA screw the HQ just shoot with your friends. There will be pros and negatives to any group you shoot with.

Shoot long enough, you find butt heads in every sport. I have a few guys I hate shooting with or even talking to in IDPA, one was an AC, we don't get along much. It isn't putting me off the sport though, move forward, world is full fo butt heads. All websites are the same BTW, piss off a mod & they close the thread. Move on, it's life in the 21st century.

You don't become a better shooter unless you can shoot more & you don't shoot more unlesss you can do it for less. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 5 or greater. You currently have 0 post(s).

I agree Fred, if Robert wasn't a paid employee...and people are people.
Regardless, I feel that perhaps IDPA HQ does not respect its customers, given the statements and actions on its "official" forum. I certainly wouldn't make an askew attack on one of my customers on my company website.
Actually, I run a website and the social media outlets for a local club (aside from being responsible for my company's public outreach). I get the XXI very well. I wouldn't go ad hominem on any of the clubs activity sites. As a matter of fact, as a mod on a local forum, I would have deleted his post. And I expect a personal attack on this forum would be deleted and I would be warned. It is simply not tolerated.
And, I'm not attacking IDPA. I love the local folks and I love talking to new shooters most of all. But holy cow, man! Have some respect. (not you, Fred, speaking of the quote in OP)

I shoot IDPA and USPSA and am a certified safety/range officer in both. I don't shoot 3 gun because it is too much trouble to get all that stuff together on a Saturday morning....elsewise, I have to admit I am lazy.
So, I got plenty of sports, I just gotta be okay with the sanctioning body. Fred has a point in that there are lots of a-holes. I just hate it when they are well-placed.

Send the folks @ IDPA HQ a polite note of the bad behavior. I have found them mostly good people to deal with as far as questions & such. I am also a cert IDPA SO, so I do ask things occasionally to stay current.

I think the biggest problem with IDPA is that it is privately owned. Because it is easy to get into, and has growing popularity because of the format, there is zero requirement for the owners to be responsive to the membership.
I'm glad that they are (finally) addressing the need for a rulebook revision, but the sense of "customer service" or "addressing the needs of the members" within IDPA is sadly lacking.
