xdm 9mm 4.5

Hi everyone,

Im looking to purchase my first pistol and im also looking to get into practical shooting. Im wondering if the 4.5 is good enough for an entry level pistol into practical shooting or if anyone had any other recommendations?

Also looking for opinions on px4 storms too.

Thanks in advance.

Skip the storm and go with one of the big 3 all great guns:

Glock 17 (infamous)
S&W M&P (used by a lot of pros)
S.A. XDM 4.5 (loved by this forum)

I would go with the Glock or M&P for practical shooting. I love my XDM 5.25 but its not a practical shooting gun.

The 4.5 is very comfortable to shoot. Really enjoy mine.

Grip and trigger mechanics were easily transitioned to from my long time favorite 1911.

Go with the 4.5, see lots of people shooting them in USPSA Production, and Limited classes.

While all guns listed so far are excellent options, I respectfully disagree with skipping the Beretta PX4 Storm. My .40 Fullsize is at ~3,500 flawless rounds using a wide variety of ammo, from lead Ultramax reloads to HST, Hydra-Shok, and Gold Dot. It has successfully run through 500-round bursts (straight, in 1-2 range trips, no cleaning) with no issues, twice.

At least check it for fit with your hand. The XD(m) 4.5 is an excellent choice, however.

I'm sure the Storm is a good gun but by purchasing it your limiting your future options of what you can do to it.

The Glock has the most options. Its easier to get a training gun if your going to do force on force training or use sim-rounds.

Hello & welcome first of all!
The XDm will do what you're looking for, but so will the Glock or M&P. I really like the XDm's I own five & never had a single issue out of any of them..
Glock parts/accessories are probably the most easily found. Don't think you could go wrong w/either of the choices you listed.
