My homemade 3-gun course...pics galore.

I've ben hesitant to post this stuff here because so many of you are really shooting "real" 3-gun courses but I've really put a ton of work into it so I thought I'd share. I can't really afford to nor do I have the time to get into real 3-gun comp shooting so I decided to make my own small course so my buddies and myself (long time shooters) can have a place to compete with each other. I have a private piece of property I shoot on and played around last year with a few things in the station based shooting realm. Over the winter I decided to make some targets and get a small course set up. For this course we are using:

-.22LR semi auto rifle (the only requirements are semi auto with detachable magazine). I personally have a M&P 15-22. The land is not long enough for an AR to be used.

-12ga pump shotgun. I personally have an FN TPS.

-Side arm. I will be using my XDm 9mm

Here's some pics of what I landed up making:

Static steel targets (x6)

IPSC silhouette target (I ordered official IPSC targets, cardboard in pic was for mock-up. there's 8 of these)

Shotgun table for shotgun station

Shotgun targets

Leaning rests for 1st and 2nd station

Shooting wall

I don't have a pic of my Action Target .22 dueling tree but you all know what that is.

I've deemed this course the "gut buster". Here's a layout of the 7 stations and what is at each one:

Station 1
Leaning, 2x shots on IPSC silhouette- .22LR rifle 50yds

Station 2
Leaning, 2x shots on IPSC silhouette- .22LR rifle 25yds

Station 3
Standing. (Pick shotgun off of table) 1x clay (3 targets total)- 12ga target load

Station 4
Standing, 2x shots on steel target (4 total)- .22LR rifle

Station 5
A- Standing. (Weak hand around static wall) 2x shots on static steel- .22LR rifle
B- Standing. 3x shots (through upper hole in wall) top three of 6-target steel dueling tree- .22LR rifle
C- Kneeling. 3x shots (through lower hole in wall) bottom three of 6-target steel dueling tree- .22LR rifle
D- Standing. (Strong hand around static wall) 2x shots on static steel- .22LR rifle

Station 6
Standing. 2x shots on IPSC silhouette (3 targets total)- pistol

Station 7
Standing. 2x shots on IPSC silhouette (3 targets total)- pistol

If my count is correct, that's 22x .22LR, 3x 12ga and 12 pistol rounds per run-through...

Everything is built pretty strong but I'm a bit hesitant on the shotgun stands...we'll see how a 2x4 stands up to numerous target loads. Either way, the first run through is this Sunday. I'll post some videos of us attempting to look cool while fumbling our way through the course for the first time.....

Looks like fun -- post up some video after you run it!

Looks good!
What steel did you use for your targets? I keep thinking I need to make some...

Looks like fun, but you may want to redesign your shotgun targets. Whichever target you hit first, the other will fall automatically, hit or not, and the wood will get chewed up fast. Otherwise, be safe and have fun!

The picture is a bit deceiving, I took it to show that a clay could be staged high or low. I'll only use 1 clay per stand when shooting....

I do agree with it getting chewed up though...we'll see what happens. I can (and probably still will) screw a piece of plywood to them for a replaceable "face"

Very nice man. Wish I had the space for a homemade range.

One of the guys I shoot with has acres of land... He regularly sets up field courses and runs them at home lol.

Has a Texas Star and a Plate Rack, among all the standard steel/ipsc targets... And that sh*t ain't cheap!

That's a great setup, my suggestion is to incorporate some reloads in there somewhere, 3 shots with a shotgun is not that much. Maybe a reload between 2 shooting stations. Look for some 55 gallon barrels somewhere and use those as barricades shooting behind cover also. Good luck and have fun.

I would image the shotgun sticks will hold up for a little while but I would image that replacing it constantly will be a pain in the wallet and A$$. I would recommend using something cheaper attached to a quick on off system.
