Rough IDPA Match yesterday...
Shot at BGSL yesterday. Man, the stages were GREAT! Very challenging, they brought a few back from the last big shoot. Very technical, lot of thinking. It was awesome, except that my XDm decided to go belly up. I had at LEAST 1 failure to fire per mag. Over 20 for the day. I managed to retain most of them after the stage, which is how I know the minimum number of failures. 20. Ouch. The primer was hit, fairly good dimple, no boom. Thought (HOPED) it was the ammo, let my buddy Ed shoot through a mag in his Glock, worked fine. My third shot in the next stage, click. I broke the thing down to bare bones last night, and scrubbed like ive never done before. Gonna head out this afternoon and run through a few mags, see if anythings changed. The striker retainer pin was next to impossible to get out, no idea if it was damaged before hand, but it came out in 3 mangled pieces. Almost made me want to buy an M&P yesterday.... almost....

Sounds like you got oil in your firing pin well. Big no no.

Hmmm. Think thats all it was? Took it to the car between stages, pulled it apart in the trunk, literally BLASTED bore scrubber in it, shook it all over the place. It got better for one stage, and then the last stage it was the same. Should I just carry some canned air next time if I think there's oil in it? I've never seen a pistol that temperamental about a little oil. I dont spray the gun down. Use a rag, some light CLP, and wipe clean. NEVER leave wetness in the gun. Guess it's just something to watch for.

Never leave wetness in the striker channel. The gun -- no problem -- as wet as you want.
There are a couple finicky places -- mag lips and striker channel. Those places like to be clean and dry.
If you're going to get lube / cleaner / whatever in the striker channel, you'll have to break the gun down far enough to run a q-tip or something all the way into the channel repeatedly until it comes out clean and dry. Do the same for the striker, strker dampening spring, striker spring & striker spring guide -- leave a thin film on them at most....I'd lean towards clean and dry just to be safe.

Wow. Just tried it again. Better, but still has light strikes. Ran two different kinda of ammo, one went 15 for 15 firing. The other went about 35 of 50. Wish I had more of one kind, but since I just bought a bulk of Freedom Munitions, thats what Im having problems with. Really frustrated at this point man.

Ouch. Makes me cringe when I see a fellow competitor in the firing line with multiple malfunctions after another.... I feel the pain as the timer just ticks away.

Ill tell ya what. The Hornady shot fine. I blew the gun completely dry, Q-Tipped every nook and cranny, gave it the white-glove test. Some time this week it's going back out with two different boxes. If it works, I'll be a happy camper. If the Freedom Munitions fails again and the Federal Bulk crapola still works, there may be a concerned phone call going to Freedom. I have doubts its the ammo, but nothing about the gun changed, and it suddenly stopped singing a tune. We shall see....

Did you get blaster ammo or new out of curiosity?

Could it be high primers in the Freedom Munitions? Factory reloads?

Poker, it was 180 gr. JHP New. I bought it to test it, since they pack the XTP bullet, and were a good deal, wanted to have some for CCDW. I contacted Freedom this afternoon, when I told him what caliber I had, he already knew the problem. This run had ATK's new enviro-friendly primers , which apparently aren't doing too hot. He said he would send another 500 my way, free of charge, with different primers, and a return label to ship my remaining rounds back. They are wanting to recoup the costs of bad primers from ATK. The other calibers they've loaded haven't had any problems.
Ill give any company the benefit of the doubt at the onset of a problem. Everyone, no matter who or what the cost, has a problem eventually. The best manufacturers in every industry aren't perfect, things don't last forever. What I DO look for, as much as a quality product, is how the company stands behind it and the pride they have for what they do. When he said straight off, "We'll send your order again, free of charge", I was impressed. I told him how many rounds I had left, and offered since I had in fact shot some, he could simply replace what I still had. Again, he insisted to send the whole order again. Since my teamy Lee ran their 9mm all day without a single hiccup, and fairly good performance, I'm happy to continue doing business with Freedom Munitions. If this next run works as well as the 9mm, I'll be more than happy to refer others to them as well. Kudos to Freedom for standing behind their product.
