realistic matches dispose of "race gear" prob

Keep the ranges under 30 ft, mostly under 15 ft, with much of it under 6ft, as in real life defensive shootings, and see to it that the shooter never has to hit more than 3 targets per stage (and rarely more than 2, and usually only one) and the silly gear will be of no advantage to anybody. Ergo, few will waste time and money on such stuff. With modern electronic shooting timers, we no longer need lots of range and lots of targets to determine who is first and who is in 20th place.

I think it's called IDPA???? Most stages have targets well under 15yds, some @ contact, stock guns & holsters, movement, weak hand, strong hand, shooting from cover & w/ concealment, pretty much all things needed during a gunfight. No one would show up to shoot 40rds, even if it were free. Many people don't understand the multiple targets do not always indicate multiple attackers, but movement of the targets as the shooter is moving. So you can think of it as 8 bad guys or two bad guys moving to diff locations. It's practice, not real life.

I don't compete in USPSA matches to train on tactics. It's a game some of us like to play. It's fun to "race" the clock and my fellow shooters. Everyone I shoot against in my Division has to shoot the same type of gear. And, I like shooting at 12-15 targets from all kinds of varying ranges. Considering the growth in USPSA and IDPA, I'm not alone.

Shooting sports don't all have to be about tactics and defensive/offensive shooting at people. Look at trap and skeet, for example. Anyone who thinks those are realistic training to shoot down birds must have a cage of foul ready to be shot out right in front of them on command

Absolutely in with ErichF.

Anyone who tells you that USPSA and IDPA trains you in any kind of Tactics is thinking wishfully and unrealistically.

Even the FAQ in here very specifically states they are both GAMES. Which is how they need to be approached. Granted any amount of trigger time behind your weapon will increase your proficiency with said firearm, but I know of no one that goes to these competitions thinking they'll learn any kind of "tactics" lol.

Yuppa. USPSA and IDPA are gun games and NOT training for gunfighting. If you think they are you will be on the loosing end of almost any lethal threat encounter. They are better than no training at all.

Wow...I've read three posts by the late Tuck and in all three he performs a proctology internal self-exam. What a jewel.

Why? You don't think others have wanted to discuss similar ideas?

I think it's pretty common knowledge that Tuck was just trolling. Bumping his troll threads does nobody any good.
