loaded xd .40 subcompact

Sirs, If I load a round into the chamber as a supplement to my 9-rd magazine and I accidentally or even intentionally drop the gun on a hard surface, would it discharge? I'm not very sure about its safety mechanism. Please enlighten me. A diagram would be most welcome. Thanks
