You are correct. It should have read "ride the slide". Watch his video again. When he chambers a round he has his hand over the slide to rack it. Fine so far. But, he keeps his hand on the slide and somewhat gently "rides" it forward while chambering a round. He will eventually induce a malfunction using this method. When chambering a round you need to let the pistol do the work. Come over the top and grab the slide, (gross motor skill), pull back foreably and then let go. The slide should slam forward under its' own force. This is the only way to correctly chamber a round.

Well, technically, the XD manual says to chamber first round by locking back slide, inserting mag, and release slide stop.

This is actually a HIGHLY recommended procedure with a Kahr, which I happen to also own.

Manuals also tell you not to carry a gun with a round chambered. Try using the slide stop when you are in a pressure situation. You need to train with gross not fine motor skills. I use the gross skills with all of my pistols with excellent results, those pistols include XDs and Kahrs. You cannot count on hitting the slide lock and you cannot count on the slide lock properly chambering a round.

Probably dropping a round into the chamber through an open breech and then releasing slide and inserting full magazine.

Thats why these videos are here, to educate.

I propose a third way.

Take a spare mag and load one (1) round only. Lock the slide back. Insert the magazine with only 1 round in it. Slingshot the slide. Drop the now empty mag, and insert a fully-loaded magazine.

This way, if you should ever have a slam-fire, there is no possibility of the pistol running away, or even having a loaded round in the chamber while you're try to figure out WTH just happened.

Food for thought.

You should have turned the camera 180° so that what the viewer sees on the screen is how it would appear to them when looking down at their own firearm. Maybe you can just flip it with your video editing software?
