Dawson Front sight, Keeps drifting.
According to my GS who put them on back in Jan. There is a design flaw with the some of the front sights of dawson's that came slighty bent(warped?) in the middle, causing them to loosen during prolong firing due to how thin their dovetail cuts are. Hes repostion them twice now, and said the only way to keep the front sight to stay center, and to fix the "flaw" was by milling the front sight to the slide. Before I make that type of commitment on my gun, I was wondering if anyone else ever had this problem. Its getting real fustraiting during IPSC and IDPA matches to not being able to shoot strait.
Also I love the rear dawnson sight, but as for the front sight I could care less for. If I don't decide to go with milling my front sight, what are other front sight that goes well with Dawson rear, for compitition shooting?

High Strength Glue. Even my Meprolight night sights recommended a 3M adhesive of some type to make sure they wouldn't move at all.
Get some for your gun smith or some super glue or something and have him re-install the sights with the glue.

Any gunsmith can put a dimple in the sight channel. Your sight will stay put.

I have installed lots of Dawson Precision sights and I haven't had any issues with their quality. More than likely your front sight was over fit when it was installed.

fixing sight from moving
their sight come over sized and you have to fit them with a file. My feeling is he took off to much material and wont admit it. Your easiest options are use a punch and knurl the dovetail a little, then use some pressfit or green locktite. stake your sight into place after positioning it where you want. I have used the knurl and pressfit my self and it is very effective.

I've never heard of this "defective sight" and we are one of Dawson's bigger XD sight customers. I can call Dave Dawson and ask him if you really want to know if they had any bad sights go out.
If your gunsmith can't fix the sight, don't let him mill it, find a smith who can fix the sight properly. It isn't hard, even if he "over fit" it to begin with.

Do you want to go back to your smith or do you want us to walk you thru a fix? I am all for doing things myself but realize not everyone has the tools.

My Dawson front sight was defective after I screwed up the installation. You really need the proper tools in order to install sights.
I bent my first one trying to install it and had to bite the bullet and but a new one. My original sights were Heinie and the rear sight slid out on my in a match because it wasn't fitted properly. I now know how to properly fit sights and I have the right files and punches to do it.
My installations are still very ugly. You need a lot of skill and time to learn gunsmithing and the average home smith just doesn't have that.
There are lot of resources on the net that can help you out though. My Favorite is Blind Hogg.
