I do it EVERY time I shoot my XD, or any firearm, even if It's only 1 round. I'm sure not everyone would agree, but this allows me to make sure it's always clean, and also allows me to check for any possible issues.

There has been a time or two when I've found something that didn't look right, which allowed me to fix the problem before getting out to the range, or worse, needing it to defend myself. I'd hate to be in either situation with a malfunctioning firearm, simply because I didn't take the time to clean my weapon properly.

Is there a how to or video walk through showing how to get past the field strip?

I'd like to take mine down a little further but don't know what to do after the field strip.

I know what you mean about wanting cleanliness. I disassemble mine each shoot and try to clean it up thoroughly, short of removing pins that is.

After my last shoot the loaded chamber indicator started sticking up a bit, and it's bugging me, I want to take the pin out and find out what's gunking it up and preventing it from re-seating properly. Short of driving out a pin (will need to get the right sized punch for it) I'm going to try some solvent under pressure and see if I can blast out anything that is keeping it elevated.

A little while ago there was a similar thread and a link was posted:

Springfield Armory XD and HS2000.com

This looked like a great site to get a feel for what you'll be in for. It looks very straight forward and worth bookmarking.

Good luck,

J

If you really want step by step instructions go to youtube and look it up. There's a six part series that explains how to completely disassemble and reassemble a XD 45 Tac

I clean Mine every time I shoot.
Not really because I think it has to be cleaned but, I don't want GSR on my weapon if I was to be hasseled by the MAN.

The cleaning I do is Pull the slide, pull rod and spring, pull barrel. I use soap and water with a brush HOT water and when scrubbed well and rinsed, I use compressed air to clear the water out then use Armadillo water proof treatment then oil. Looks good and no rust.

Constantly diss/re-assembling it is a great way to DEVELOP "issues".
