remember poeple are more likely to post about problems that non-problems

I own four XDs and have only had two major problems. Both with my XD-40 Tactical. Than again it gets shot the most as its my competition gun.

First XD: XD-40 Service about 5000rds no problems. It was my competition and carry gun until I got my Tactical. Then it was just my Carry gun until I got my Kahr which was later replace by an XD-40SC. Now it is just my back up competition gun.

Second XD: XD-40 Tactical about 15,000rds its had two problems.
-at ~6000rds the locking block cracked but it had the older style locking block and I am running a lighter 16# recoil spring. Took SA 8 day to repair, door to door.
-~1000 or so rounds after the locking block repair the trigger return spring broke (right in the middle of the easter lakes sectional match). SA had me a new one three days later for free. The gun has been flawless since.

Third XD: XD-45ACP Tactical only ~1000rds through it. Flawless.

Fourth XD: XD-40SC Just got this about a week and half ago only one range session ~200rds and ran flawless. It replaces my Kahr CW9 as my primary carry gun. I traded the Kahr for the XD-45ACP because it was unreliable and I had no use for an unreliable CCW, the XD-45ACP Tactical will become my Production gun for competition.

Buy with confidence.

I came across this when I was looking for something else:
StoppingPower.net Forums - Speer GDHP 124+p in a Glock 19

Any gun can have an issue...

When the wife and I were looking at the XD, we rented one at the gun shop to try it. My wife had a FTE about every 3rd or 4th round. I had her let me try to see if I could reproduce the problem. I put 2 full clips through it, and not a single problem. I was the one who ended up buying one, and havnt had a single problem yet. The gun is only a few weeks old, and I have only put 200 rounds through it though, but the problem with my wife was that she was limpwristing it. When mine came in, she put 2 clips through it, and had no problems with it.

I also have a Taurus PT-111 millenium that has been a great CCW gun...But the extractor pin broke12 rounds in. Taurus's lifetime warranty repaired the gun with no problems, in about 12 days. never had a problem since.

That being said, there is an interesting article here Pistol-Training.Com Blog Archive Trust No One: an insider’s perspective talking about how NO gun is perfect. People talk about reliable there guns have been. Reliable just mean they havnt had problems with it so far. This is why we have lifetime warrantys on our guns. Don't settle for less!

I am new to this board and just bought my XD-9 Service a couple of weeks ago. I have fired over 600 rounds and have had zero problems. I shot WWB, UMC, Speer, and CCI and no problems with any of them, hollow point and FMJ. I wouldnt hesitate to buy another XD and if fact will do so as soon as my budget allows after I buy an AR. (got to buy as much as possible before Ossama Obamma gets elected-SHUDDERRRRRR!!!!!!)

Failures

The only failure I've experienced over the course of 2200 rounds was because of me, not the gun. It was a failure to extract while I was shooting in an off-hand single-handed stance that I wasn't firm enough with; I "limp-wristed" the thing. This happened after 1200 rounds.

Keep this in mind when you read of FTE type failures. Don't be too quick to blame the gun.
