For those who have had experience shooting both(preferably owning both), is there a noticeable recoil difference between the subcompact and the service 9mm?

what about the .40?
The 40 is a very snappy round, more than the 9mm and not nearly as smooth as a 45. I'd either go 9mm or 45, forget about 40 cal.

i had an xd sub compact .40 and it had a lot of recoil. more then my xd .45 service. the .40 cal is very snappy.
Maybe it's just because I have baseball mitts for hands. I have never thought of the recoil of my XDSC .40 to be anything noticeably uncomfortable, in fact I love the recoil of it. .40 cal will flip the muzzle while .45 acp will push the slide, make sense? the best bang for the buck is a XDSC in a .40 if you are going to carry concealed. At least to me it is. Either way, it all depends on how much you intend to shoot, what you are using it for and if you are carrying it, cost of ammo included.
The difference between a 9 Service and a 9 Subcompact is noticeable. My gf's 9 SC is more snappy than my 9 Service. However, my 40 SC is not a whole lot snappier than her 9 SC. It almost feels the same. There's a larger difference between the 9 Service and 9 Subcompact than there is in the 9 Subcompact and the 40 Subcompact.
I wish I had the opportunity to shoot a 9sc. I shot the g26 which is considerably snappier than the 4" xd9. Maybe it was feeling particularly snappy after shooting the 45tac.
I'm really interested in the .40SC. I bought the 9SC for fun shooting, but have recently started carrying it. I would much prefer a 40 for a CCW.
Is there much difference in kick/muzzle flip between the two? I know the 9 shoots pretty decent for being a small gun. I always assumed the 40 would be unbearable, but then again I have never shot one.
Anyone live around NW Indiana with one that wants to run up to the gun range in Valpo?

The XDSC .40 is candy to shoot, I wouldn't have any aprehension in recommending it. My wife loves to shoot mine, and she never shoots at all, the muzzle flip is nothing to worry about. If you are going to carry, don't worry if you ever get into a situation, the last thing your adrenaline will have you worrying about is the muzzle flip. It's extremely accurate.

I have been anti 40 for a long time because of the snappy recoil and haven't owned one for about 5 years. I resently bought a G35 (40S&W Glock Competition/Tactical) for IPSC shooting and after putting 300 rounds through it I remember why I disliked the round. The 40 does have a more snappy muzzle flip than the 45ACP and I believe it is easier to get back on target with the 45. I personally feel the best buy for a carry gun is the XD45 Compact, it conceals just as easily while having a longer barrel and higher capacity than the 40SC. I had been carrying a 9SC for some time and switched to a 45 Compact when I found how easy it is to conceal. My $.02.
