Trigger job

What should I expect as the results of a trigger job from a top XD smith? I've never had one or shot a pistol that has had one. But I want to turn my 9service into a real sweet shooter. I just got the slide back with TFOs installed.

Thanks people,

I just got my XD-9 back from Springfield Armory's Custom Shop. They did a great job on the trigger. The take up is all but gone, the distance the trigger has to travel to reset after firing a shot is greatly reduced. I haven't measured the trigger pull, but the waiver I signed stated 3.5 lbs. All I know is that when I dry fire it, I watch my sights and they don't move one iota. I've put about 300 rds through it since I got it back, and function is flawless.

I had the pleasure of meeting Rich from Canyon Creek Custom yesterday. I handled some samples of his fine work and was mightily impressed. I'm not really sure if I could tell the difference between his trigger job and SA's work just by dry firing. I have an XD-40 I may send his way for a little work down the road.

But a trigger job is no substitute for practice, practice, practice...

My 9 tactical is at 2.5 LB to slightly more and very crisp with very little take-up and almost all of the over-travel removed. The 45 is at 3.25LB with the take-up gone and just a hint more travel.

I have a 4.0# trigger on my XD45 Service (Canyon Creek) and a 3.25# trigger on my XD9 Tactical (Springer Precision). Both are significant improvements in my opinion.

As others have said.....the take up is reduced, trigger pull lessoned, and overtravel reduced. I had mine done by Scott @ http://springerprecision.com/

Scott does awesome work. The long "spongy" take up in the trigger is gone. I got the combat/carry 4-5# trigger pull......which I love. The overtravel reduction (via a set screw in the trigger bar) is also a great improvement, allowing for great follow up shots. Less trigger movement = less overall movement in your pistol = better accuracy. Mine has definitely improved.

I'll be sending my subcompact off to Scott as soon as I can afford it....hopefully within the next month or two.

There are several other quality smiths that do this work.....Canyon Creek, Springfield Custom Shop.......but you know who I'd recommend
