When CCW, do you keep one in the chamber?

Just curious as to whether most people keep their gun loaded with one in the chamber, or do you carry it with a loaded mag but still need to move the slide back before firing?

The common consensus is "always carry with a round in the chamber, ready to fire."

to me theres no point in carrying if theres not one in the chamber. i dont think the bad guy will give you that split second to rack the slide.

That's what I was thinking but at the same time I don't want to take one in the bum. haha.

Do they teach you at the CCW class how to safely remove the gun from the holster?

That is a matter of finger control and dryfire. Practice it 100s of times, keeping your finger away of the trigger.

When carrying...one in the chamber, always.

I recommend always having one in the chamber. if an incident arises that needs split second decision making, you wont have time to rack the slide. If i feel my life is in danger i want to be ready to protect myself and loved ones.

Also the XD has multiple saftey's on it to protect you from a AD in the bum. Between the grip saftey and the USA trigger i feel very confindent with it. I carry my xd at about 1 o'clock, so for me to have a AD or ND would be life changing for me.

Holsters now come with trigger guards on them to keep you and your finger away from the trigger.

As for your class teaching you the proper grip for unholstering, it may depend on the instructor. i should hope they go over that, as its one of the 4 major rules of firearms. "Keep your finger off the trigger until your ready to shoot."

hope this helps

1000s of times!

Drawing - keep finger off trigger until on target
Reholstering - be reluctant to reholster - consciously keep finger on the frame

Wear it around the house empty for awhile till you're "relatively" comfortable with it.

But yes, always one in the chamber.

Our CHL instructor stated that Israel forces proved that they can draw and chamber in one action in the same time that you can draw with one in the chamber. At this point I do not carry one in the chamber. I am sure I am one of the few that don't though.
