Smile It's here....

YAY! Got my XD9 today. Wish my papers to transport it came but I hope they get here before the w/e so I can try it out.

Never used the Nite Sights before so I hope I can get used to them. I know the stock sights would have been cheaper and then install Fibre Optic ones but I just don't like those even if they are better. Anyone like shooting with the Trijicons?

Also, anyone have any troubles with the XD9 the first time out? Do I expect it to shoot low/left like all new Springfields for the first two boxes? I know almost everybody shoots even more low/left with a brand new gun because they aren't used to it. My XD45 just shot low, period because of too low a sight installed at the factory. Should I expect the same with the 9 or not? I know I shot a couple of other guy's XD9's and 2" holes, so I hope mine is the same. Those two guys had theirs well broken in so I couldn't judge what a new XD9 is like.

I never held my XD45 and compared it to my friend's XD40 or the other two guys' XD9's. I knew they were smaller but I never realized just how much smaller the XD9 is in comparison. Still feels really nice, though. Even if lighter and smaller, it still feels like an XD when shooting and I know I can still shoot the smaller frame just as good as my XD45 so I hope mine's going to be like the other guys smaller XDs.

Anyways, comments appreciated so I can know what to expect this weekend or next, depending on when the papers come. Reliability wise, I know to expect a typical XD since I never had a problem with the 45.

medicstimpy My first visit I put 250 rounds of WWB through my XD without a problem. My last visit to the range I blew through 300 rounds of WWB in less than an hour without a problem. I have put a total of 1050 rounds through my XD-9 service without a single hickup. All of which have been the cheap and dirty WWB rounds. I love the gun and I wish I had enough to get the 9mm SC right now.

As far as accuracy goes, I can't really comment since I'm still learning seeing as my XD-9 is basically the first and only gun I've shot. I will however mention that when I first started shooting the majority of my shots were low left. Once I read about anticipating recoil, started using the two thumbs forward grip, started bring the gun up to eye level instead of moving my head, focusing on the target and then the sights I started getting 4-6" groups. I certainly need to get better, and I need to go to the range more often if I expect to progress.

At any rate, have fun with your new XD!

I am no pro either, but on my first trip with my XD-9 Svc I shot mainly low and left. I can't really blame the gun until I improve my grip/stance/technique though. Congrats, and let us know how it goes!

Glad to hear you guys had good outings the first time around. I'm not expecting and feeding or reliability issues. My XD45 was and is flawless in that department.

I know we all shoot off the first few times out so I just hope this one isn't "off" like my 45 was. Should be ok.

Been handling the new sights in the basement with different lighting conditions. Pretty kewl them Trijicons. When the light gets a little low, they start to glow a bit but not that annoying bright red or green or yellow like light-tube type sights. I think they are going to work out perfectly for what this gun's purpose is.

Been practicing my reloads with empty mags, too. This thing is great! Even with out a mag well, the smaller framed model seems a bit easier to do an IPSC reload than the XD45 with a magwell. The mags fall free easily and it's a lot easier to get them in unlike my 1911. But then again, it's an XD!

And... I got home from work this evening and YAY!!! My transport papers came in! So I can take her out of the house to the range now!

I love this thing!!!!

Well, OK, I love my XD45 more but it was great on her first outing! The sights were dead on so no need to contact Springfield like with my XD45.

Only time I had problems was with one of my spare mags. I took one apart to see the insides and accidentally put the spring in backwards. Failed to stay open. OOPS! MY BAD!!! Quickly fixed. Not one single problem after that.

And it feeds the .38 SWC's that I cast and then resize to 9mm. SWC in 9mm is sooooo KEWL!!!

It took a few mags to get used to the lighter feel of this gun and the smaller frame but once I did, I was hitting the A zone for my single target and still acceptable on my multi-target rapid fire rounds.

Didn't do any bullseye with it yet since I wanted to practice IPSC and get her broken in with FMJ bullets. Tomorrow I'll take her and do a couple of boxes with bullseye shooting.
