Service grip reduction
I just bought my third XD today (.40 service) for the purpose of doing a grip reduction on my older service. I have borrowed a buddy's SC so I can get all of the measurements if I want to cut it myself.
Before going that route, does anyone regret cutting theirs?
My goal is for better concealed carry and I think the SC is too short and stubby. I have no problem with the length of the service but the grip prints and I am not going to put on weight just to conceal it better.
That would leave me the tactical and the service for duty use. When done I would have three guns that all work and feel the same and share the same magazines.
Is there one vendor that has the SC magazines, the Springfield mag filler for the full size mags and the pierce grip extensions? I would like to one shop stop.
Is there any pro's that cut the grips and what is there price and turn around time? I feel confident in doing it, but if the price is right I would probably prefer sending it to a pro.
Thanks for all the help.

I did it to one of my services and I have no regrets.
For all your xd needs, www.pistolgear.com is the place to go.
For a professional grip reduction, go here. http://www.bowietacticalconcepts.com/ While it's a fair price for the grip reduction itself, you have to add in the cost of shipping your handgun overnight or paying an FFL to mail it for you.

DO you actually have to ship the whole handgun or can you ship the frame and avoid the over night expense?

I'm interested in doing this also. Does this void the warranty? Will Springfield do it for you? How much should I expect to pay? How long does it typically take?

The BATF classifies the frame as the firearm. Federal law mandates notifying the shipper (fedex, ups) that you shipping a firearm. It is fedex/ups policy that firearms must be sent overnight. So, while you could probably get away with it, I would say legally, it has to be shipped overnight.

That's what I figured but I wanted to see what others thought as it would have saved a lot of money. I sent my XD tactical back to Spingfield and it was just under $40 for shipping but they said they would refund it so no biggy.
If I send my gun off I will probably send only the lower so I can box it much smaller and hopefully save some money. It looks like I will be sending it to Bowie or Springer, maybe by the end of the week.

This is from the FedEx website:
FedEx Ground will not accept for transport handguns, assembled or disassembled.
So, to be legal, you must ship overnight, even if it is just the frame.

Check my sig link. It may help some if you decide to do it your self. I just sold my XD9compact but I had no regrets.

Before I did mine I called and they do not do it, the warranty will only be void for the area that is cut (according to the S/A csr)
Just one tip, after your final file and fit clean up the bottom edge and flair with 400 grit sand paper follow that with a felt wheel on your dremel with rouge. This makes it a lot more comfortable for IWB (no skin scraches) and it looks like it came that way.
Btw: I used packerfan's instructions and they were great.
