Got the Wife over to the Dark Side!

Wife was/is vehemently anti. Threatened divorce when I brought my first XD mistress home! Finally convinced her to get something for protection (but it had to be small and "cute"). After convincing her NOT to get a 22 derringer or revolver, almost got her up to a 380, but she's so weak she couldn't even rack the lightest slide around! Settled on a NIB Stainless Berreta 32 Tomcat (has the top break barrel). $400+tax. Pretty sweet deal.

She's going in to take lessons this week and get started on the CCL!

I would also suggest some kind of physical training, unless theres some medical condition... standard spring weight for an xd or even a 1911 is 18lbs... thats not that much, a 32 has to be somewhere around 12 pounds... It's not good to be that weak...

My wife is very pro-gun. But she has a hard time racking slides too. I was looking at the Beretta Tomcat for my wife. I've never shot a .32 before and wanted to know whats the recoil like?

My wife had a hard time racking the slide on a semi-auto until I taught her the proper way to do it.

Most people try and pull back on the slide. Once I taught her to grip the slide and push forward with her right hand (the hand holding the frame) she had no problem racking the slide on my 1911, or any other semi-auto pistol.

Now she wants to shoot the 1911 every time I take her to the range.

ehhh... I wouldn't call that the proper way... either way your applying the same amount of resistance... the actual "easiest" way (with the best muscle use) is to hold the weapon close to your chest and anchor the strong hand elbow against the body and rack the slide with the weak hand... you'll be pushing your arms toward each other... using the strongest muscles in your arms and chest...

One way thats more effective than the index and thumb Pinch the serrations way is to put your whole weak hand over the slide infront of the rear sights... put the part of your fingers between the first and second knuckle on top of the slide and and squeeze it with your whole hand... thats how i got my girlfriend to do it easily... also I've noticed that thats what I revert to under stressful situations like in a USPSA match when I accidentally shoot to slide lock...
