Do these sights look "offset" to you???? NEW XD9

I just picked up my new XD9. I ordered it from the dealer with the Heinie Straight Eight sights. After getting it home and looking it over I noticed that the back edge of the dovetail on the rear left side looked like it gouged into the back of the slide when it was pushed in. There is a bit of a burr sticking out. While looking closer I noticed that the rear sight sits way off to the left. It's not centered on the hash marks in the slide. In fact I think it looks way off. I haven't shot it yet, but I'd have to believe that it's going to shoot way left regardless.

What do you guys think? Take a look at the shoulder of the slide and line it up from there. It kinda even looks ever so cock right to left which would have caused the rear dovetail to push into the back of the slide causing the burr.

Are they offset to the left? Is this "acceptable" on a new gun??

At the angle the pics were take yes they do. Notice the mark on the right side of the sight in the pic, can you see a mark on the left side? If you can are right and left equal distance?

I'd be pissed if that were my gun. It is definitely offset to the left, and also appears to be rotated slightly counter clockwise. I'd get it fixed, and if they have damaged the slide, ask for a different pistol.

Only way to find out is to shoot it. The angles of the photos are deceiving.

You cannot legislate morality, and banning inanimate objects will never substitute for personal responsibility. Banning and limiting things merely makes them profitable to criminals via laws of supply and demand.

it's way off. Take it to a gunsmith. My front site looked like that straight from the factory. I could aim 8 - 10 inches to the right of a target and still hit the target.

Looks crooked to me. I'd take it back to the place of purchase and nicely demand they rectify the situation

Ok, here are some more pictures as I'm not attempting to "deceive" anyone. I'm no Gunsmith, but to me this is WAAAY off.

In these first few you can make out the left hash mark. In some photos it's bit blurry, but if you make an effort you can see it. Pay attention to the top "flat" of the slide and notice how the sight almost hangs off the left while exposing a lot of the flat on the right.

In the photo below notice that the back right hand side of the sight is ever so closer to the right edge while the top right is more to the left. It appears as if the sight is cocked counter-clockwise a bit. Not much, but we're only talking a total distance here of about 1/2". Thats cocked a lot for such a short distance.

Here is a good shot of how close the sight is to the left hash. The right hash shot is below. (sorry out of sequence). Notice how much more space is exposed on the right.

Here you can see the top left of the sight hanging off to the left while the left rear is barely hanging on. Again, slight counter-clockwise cocking.

Here you can see how much of the right side is exposed between the sight and the hash mark. You can compare this to the left side (up above) and below.

Looks like it's off a bit. Again if they distance between the two marks is not equal or very close to equal then they are off.

Part of being a man is the ability to adapt and compensate when things don't always line up.
